1. Bangkok is usually referred to as "Krung Thep" by the Thai people. What does this mean?

Answer: City of Angels

Thais generally use the term "Bangkok" only when they are speaking with foreigners. "Krung Thep" is the abbreviated name of a city that was founded in 1782 where modern Bangkok is situated. The monarch at that time, King Rama I, had decided to build his capital at the village of Bangkok, but soon changed his mind and opted for Krung Thep.

It seems not many people outside of Thailand took much notice!
2. What is the name of Bangkok's international airport?

Answer: Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Suvarnabhumi means 'The Golden Land' in Thai and is located 30km from central Bangkok. Suvarnabhumi replaced Don Muang as the city's international airport in 2006. Dum Dum is in Kolkata (Calcutta), Changi is in Singapore and Kai Tak was formerly the international airport in Hong Kong.
3. What sport are you watching if you are at Lumphini Stadium?

Answer: Kickboxing

Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand. It was first practiced and tested in battle by Thai warriors. Bouts are held at Lumphini Stadium every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
4. What does the word "soi" refer to when it appears in a Bangkok address?

Answer: side street

Sukhumvit Soi 33 means the 33rd side street on Sukhumvit Road. Thus, if you know where the major streets are, it is relatively easy to find a location if you have the address.

The BTS is the official name of the elevated rail system in Bangkok, which opened in 1999. It is also commonly known as the 'Skytrain'.

The Nation is a daily independent newspaper based in Bangkok. The Daily Yomiuri is based in Tokyo, The Straits Times in Singapore and The Statesman in Calcutta.
9. What was the most widely spoken language in Bangkok in 1900?

Answer: Teochiu (a Chinese dialect)

Thai did not become the most prevalent language in Bangkok until after World War II. The Chinese played a major role in Bangkok's development and 15% of the population is of Chinese descent.
