In Churchill, Manitoba, nicknamed the "polar bear capital of the world", one can ride in "tundra buggies" to view wild polar bears in fall. Bears that have come inland in the summer gather on the shores of Hudson Bay in October and early November to await the return of the winter sea ice from which they hunt harp seals. Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal are too far south for polar bears.

The potash industry was started in the 1950s, with the government taking control in 1975. There are six mines in Saskatchewan, located near Saskatoon, Regina, Esterhazy, and Rocanville. These mines are over 1000 meters deep. Potash is mainly used for fertilizer. Salt is removed and used for table salt, water-softening salt, de-icing salt, and livestock salt.

Barrie, Ontario is north of the Nottawasaga Valley, so in turn, it's part of the southwestern Ontario snowbelt north of Toronto. Lake-effect snow occurs when large bodies of water create bands of precipitation over a concentrated area. In this case, the snow is provided by three of the five Great Lakes: Michigan, Superior, and Huron. Since Barrie is next to Georgian Bay, it's the ideal location for winters of snowsqualls and blizzard-like conditions as well as pleasant, beach-filled summers. Barrie, Ontario is on the shores of Kempenfelt Bay and Lake Simcoe, located forty minutes from Toronto and a few miles from cottage country.

Casa Loma is a 98 room castle complete with antiques, secret passageways, exquisite towers, and an underground tunnel that is 800 feet long and leads to a fabulous stable. It is a must see, if you visit Toronto.
The castle is built on 5 acres of beautiful gardens that are more than breathtaking.

There are self-guided tours, which are really a lot of fun. The self guided tours are digital and they are available in eight different languages.
Within the castle, there is a lovely deli with really good food at an affordable price. The castle has its own gift shop as well.
The castle and the beautiful grounds are available for private functions such as weddings.
The original owner was Canadian financier, Sir Henry Pellatt. It has been owned by the city of Toronto and the Kiwanis Club since 1937.

At 3,315 feet above sea level, Arikaree River is the lowest point in Colorado. The river is named for the Arikara tribe, and Arikaree means 'horn.' This lowest point of Colorado is the highest "lowest point" of any U.S. state.

Dyersville, is also the home of the Ertl Toy Museum and the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier, one of only 52 Basilicas on the United States. The "Field of Dreams" baseball diamond is open to the public.

Norway, was where the 2007 movie "The Final Season" was filmed. A baseball movie, "The Final Season" is about the 1993 Norway High School baseball team, which won the Iowa Class A Baseball State Championship the last year the high school existed. Norway is also the hometown of former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Mike Boddicker.

Winterset, is where the 1995 movie "Bridges of Madison County" was filmed. Winterset is the county seat of Madison County, Iowa. The bridge used in the movie is the Roseman Covered Bridge, which was built in 1893, and is open to the public. Winterset is also the hometown of legendary actor John Wayne.

Spillville, though no movie was filmed there, was where composer Antonine Dvorak was inspired to write the "Symphony from the New World" in 1892. Spillville is also the home of the Billy Clock Museum, and on the second floor of the Museum, is the apartment where Dvorak wrote the symphony.
