Which large Polish city am I in, home to Jagiellonian University (one of the world's oldest higher learning institutions) and which sounds like a sudden, loud noise? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. I now make my way to the north-west coastline and reach the Netherlands, and finally the North Sea. Looking out into the sea, I inspect the politically neutral project that has been undertaken to guard against rising sea levels and is considered to be one of the wonders of the modern world. It is known by what Greek name? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. For my final adventure, I find myself in north-west France. I traveled here in an hour by train from Paris and have visited the birthplace of King Henry II of England. I'm now trying to get to Musée de Tessé, the art museum, but I keep encountering roads that are blocked off, and yet I can hear very powerful engines driving behind the blockades. I'm told these will continue for a whole day.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I start off in the south of Germany and I'm really thirsty from my flight. Thankfully, I've come across a festival where there's beer to be found everywhere. Someone tells me its been going for two weeks already! It's about to end, but I can always visit Englischer Garten which is larger than Central Park. Which city is this?

Answer: Munich

I found myself in the middle of Oktoberfest which runs from September to early October every year. The first edition was held way back in 1810 and was a celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
2. Now I'm in Italy; the Sistine Chapel is behind me, and to the left is what I originally think is a stadium in the distance, but turns out to be the Colosseum. Where would I be?

Answer: Rome

The Colosseum was built approximately 75 A.D. and is otherwise known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. It was built during the reigns of emperors Vespasian and Titus, and was used as an entertainment venue up until the early Medieval times.
3. I am in Spain now, admiring the Sierra Martés mountain range. I was told this town was quiet, but it's currently bustling with people and tomatoes keep flying past my head. Where am I?

Answer: Buñol

The small town of Buñol is approximately 38km west of the city Valencia and is only 112 square kilometers. The Tomatina festival occurs on the last Wednesday every August and draws tens of thousands of people from all across Europe and beyond.
4. I now find myself in Athens, Greece. I am here to visit a temple completed in 432 BC. By which name is it known?

Answer: Parthenon

All of these are European temples from different countries: The Tarxien temples are found in Malta; the Temple of Hera is in Italy; and the Maison Carrée is in France. The Parthenon was partially destroyed by the Venetians in 1687 during their attempt to capture the Acropolis.
5. Now I am in England, sitting in the shade on the top of a large hill near the city of Gloucester. I would have sat at the bottom, but that would have put me at considerable risk. A large group has gathered and are rolling large wheels of cheese down to the bottom, and people are throwing themselves after them. Where do I find myself?

Answer: Cooper's Hill

The cheese on offer (which is awarded as a prize to the winner of the race) is a round of Double Gloucester cheese, weighing up to 9 pounds, or just over 4 kilograms. It is held on the Spring Bank Holiday (the last Monday in May) and is attended by an international audience; in 2013, three of the winners originated from Australia, Japan and the United States.
6. I then travel to the largest lake in central Europe, Lake Balaton, and enjoy the swimming experience it yields during summer. I also look out upon the site where there was to be a motorcycle racing circuit built but that never came to be. Which country do I find myself in, with a flag containing three horizontal bands in Christmas colours?

Answer: Hungary

Hungary is completely landlocked, and shares borders with no less than seven countries. The Treaty of Trianon signed in 1920 reduced Hungary to 29% of its previous land area and established its current borders. Hungary's flag has red, white and green horizontal bands from top to bottom.
The Balatonring was supposed to host a MotoGP race first in 2009 which was later postponed in 2010, and then cancelled altogether.
7. I travel north-east to visit my next country. Which country is this, with a flag containing the same colours as Sweden, and the hryvnia as its currency?

Answer: Ukraine

Ukraine has the largest land area of any European country that is contained entirely within the continent. The flag was first used in 1918, but only officially adopted in 1992 after the breakup of the Soviet Union.
8. I then travel across the border to the west and travel into Poland's capital city - or at least I thought I had. This city had been Poland's capital until late in the 16th century, making me only 400 or so years late. Which large Polish city am I in, home to Jagiellonian University (one of the world's oldest higher learning institutions) and which sounds like a sudden, loud noise?

Answer: Kraków

In 1978, the Archbishop of Kraków became Pope John Paul II, and in doing so became the first non-Italian pope in almost half a millennium and the first from Poland. Jagiellonian University was established in 1364 by Casimir III the Great. Sadly, Kraków is also the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
9. I now make my way to the north-west coastline and reach the Netherlands, and finally the North Sea. Looking out into the sea, I inspect the politically neutral project that has been undertaken to guard against rising sea levels and is considered to be one of the wonders of the modern world. It is known by what Greek name?

Answer: Delta Project

This was achieved by raising 3,000 kilometres (1,864 miles) of outer sea-dykes, 10,000 kilometres (6,214 mi) of inner, canal, and river dikes, and by closing off the sea estuaries of the Zeeland province. The Netherlands are otherwise known as Holland in most of the Western world - however, usage of the latter is not entirely correct as the Netherlands has twelve provinces, and the area known as Holland only encompasses two of those - North and South Holland.

The capital Amsterdam is found in the North province.
Which city am I in?

Answer: Le Mans

The race has been held annually since 1923 (except for 1940 to 1948 due to World War II), and is the world's oldest active sports car race in endurance racing. It is one third of the "Triple Crown of Motorsport" and is run every June.
