Answer: Melbourne

The Commonwealth of Australia came to be on 9th May, 1901 when Australia's first Federal Parliament opened in Melbourne. To celebrate the centenary of this event in 2001, the Victorian Government proposed to open a new centre-piece for the city of Melbourne, aptly named "Federation Square".

It opened almost two years later, in late 2002. Amongst numerous mobile cafes, Melbourne's Federation Square is the home of the Harry (oops..) Ian Potter Center, and the National Gallery of Victoria.

Answer: New South Wales

Coffs Harbour and Ballina in NSW are the homes of "The Big Banana" and "The Big Prawn" respectively. There are numersous "Big" attractions in Australia. Check out http://www.holidayoz.com.au/big-attractions.htm. Some of these are just weird!

The island of Hvar on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia is the home of the oldest theatre, built in 1612.

Completed in 1642, Rembrandt's "Night Watch", also known as "The Company of Captain F.B. Cocq" is located at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. When I saw the painting in 1994, I was struck by its enormity (4.38 x 3.59 metres).

Ramses II who reigned during the period (~1290-1224 BC) built Abu Simbel in the region formally known as Nubia, close to Egypt's border with Sudan. The temple dedicated predominantly to the gods Amon-Ra, Ptah and Ra-Harakhte features four statues of Ramses himself, one of which has collapsed.

The Gothic Saint Anne's Church is in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. Napoleon's army passed through Vilnius on their way to Moscow in 1812, but were forced to retreat and "disappeared". Recent archaeological digs of mass graves in Vilnius have discovered that they contain the remains of approximately 2000 of Napoleon's "missing" foot soldiers who are now believed to have perished due to the extreme cold (-40 celsius) experienced in December, 1812.

The Barossa Valley is in South Australia. Margaret River is in Western Australia. The Barossa Valley is world renowned as a producer of Shiraz grapes.
