Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Each question will give the geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude) of a major world city, so major in fact that the cities will be the top ten 2005 population centers of the world (see my Population Quiz). Your job will be to visualize the globe and pick the city out of the four choices. The first world city is located at 118 degrees west longitude and 34 degrees north latitude.
2. If you used a globe or world map for the first question, you certainly got it right. You also got the idea that the quiz will be more fun without them. The next world city is located at 73 degrees east longitude and 19 degrees north latitude.
3. Which major metropolitan area is found at 135 degrees east longitude and 35 degrees north latitude? Coordinates are rounded off, though many of these large cities span over a degree.
4. Our fourth city is located at 47 degrees west longitude and 24 degrees south latitude. Which is it?
5. This city is to be found at 107 degrees east longitude and 6 degrees south latitude.
6. This agglomeration, or greater metropolitan area, is at 77 degrees east longitude and 29 degrees north latitude.
7. This city is to be found by going 140 degrees east of Greenwich and 36 north of the equator; i.e., 140 degrees east longitude and 36 degrees north latitude.
8. West of the prime meridian and in the tropics, this city is 99 degrees west longitude and 19 degrees north latitude.
9. If you want to make it here, go to 74 degrees west longitude and 41 degrees north latitude.
