France and Britain were thinking about helping the Confederacy until news of the Battle of Gettysburg made it clear that the Confederacy had no hope of winning.

This war started in the Ohio River Vally over forts and fur trade and spilled over to Europe where it received that name. This war also proved that the British were not all powerful and helped colonists decide to revolt.

This ironclad (precursor to the later battleships) was captured as the USS Merrimack but renamed the CSS Virginia. Its sister ship was the USS Monitor, and the CSS Alabama was infamous for sinking US shipping.
9. Who is considered the "Father of the Constitution"?

Answer: James Madison

Madison wrote most of the Constitution. Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin wrote and edited the Declaration of Independence. The Contitution was writen to replace the old form of government that was started by the Articles of Confederation. The Articles gave most power to the states.
10. How many states were in the Union in 1860?

Answer: 33

West Virginia was still a part of Virginia, and most of the western states were still territories.
