1. What Civil War general was quoted as saying 'Bury your poor dead, and speak no more about it'?

Answer: Robert E. Lee

After the battle of Bristoe Station, Va. in 1863, many of A.P. Hill's men lay dead or dying from a poorly planned assult on a Union stronghold. Lee was overheard uttering this to Hill after the battle, which at the time was considered a very harsh rebuke from Lee.
2. During the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863, Confederate General Stonewall Jackson was mortally wounded. What was the place that Jackson was taken to, where he died eight days later?

Answer: Guinea Station, Va

Jackson had his arm amputated on the battle field of Chancellorsville, after accidentally being shot by his own men. He was then transported to Guinea Station where he died eight days later on May 10, 1863.
3. General Burnside was always known for his haircut and his military blunders. In which battle did Burnside send fourteen full frontal assaults on a stone wall, which got most of his men killed or wounded?

Answer: Battle of Fredericksburg

In the Battle of Fredericksburg, General Burnside's assult against Lee's entrenched men at the bottom of Marye's Heights proved a fatal blow to Burnside's command of the Army of the Potomac.

Answer: Kelly's Ford, Va

Pelham charged into the fray at Kelly's Ford, in an attempt to rally the men. He was struck in the top of the head with a piece of shell no larger then the size of a thumbnail.

Answer: Fort Pillow

After asking for the fort's unconditional surrender, and not getting a response, Forrest charged his men over the ramparts and killed most of the colored soldiers inside the fort. (Note that there is an ongoing controversy about exactly what happened).

The Confederates suffered a suprising defeat at Malvern Hill after several days of succesfully driving the Union out from around Richmond.

10. What Union general served as head of the Freeman's Board after the war?

Answer: General Oliver O. Howard

The Freeman's Council was used to help newly freed slaves after the war to begin an independent life. Howard subsequently had a black college named after him, Howard University in Washington DC.
