It's a German submachine gun. What was it called again?

Answer: (One Word - two letter and two digits (NOT MP44))
Question 6 of 10

Question 7 of 10
7. You continue after dealing with the Germans in your own fashion. Suddenly, you hear a loud cannon fire. It takes a second, but you recognize the shell unmistakenly as an 88mm shell launched from a German Tiger I tank. You know the risk involved in fighting this tank, but realize it wouldn't just be shooting for no reason. As an American soldier, what do you do? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. You've made your decision. However, no matter what your decision, you find no safe route around the tank, but you do discover it is alone. You must destroy it. You have an arsenal of four submachine guns, three grenades, a single RPG round, and a few pistols. What weapon do you use? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. The tank is now taken care of and its previous victims have emerged with two dead and one wounded, but still in fighting condition, out of the five that were there. Together, you make a squad of seven. You would take the Tiger, but no one has the expertise to operate it. The best course of action is to leave it and move on.

Question 10 of 10
10. You've now moved on from the tank. It feels as though you're as deep in the forest as possible, but you keep moving. Amazingly, you see a clearing not too far ahead. You go out and see, in a secluded clearing, a large group of American soldiers there trying to figure out what to do. You take command of the situation and bark out the order. "We move out, now!" This is the best course of action to get these many soldiers to safety.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You're sitting with your squad in a plane flying over France. You're only commanding a squad of nine because ten people is the maximum number of people they could fit into the back of the plane. You can hear explosions and know other planes have been hit and gone down. Suddenly, there is a horrible rumbling and you realize the plane has been hit, but you must wait for the green light. The light is still red, but you really want to get out of there. Do you and your squad jump before the light changes?

Answer: No

There is no reason to yet. The pilot and co-pilot know what they are doing. If they don't think you're in the right position or they think it's too dangerous to jump right now, they're right. When they're ready for you to jump, they'll let you know. They won't just let you crash with the plane.
2. The light turns green. You're getting out as quickly as you can. Unfortunately, in your haste, you didn't secure your rifle properly and it fell to the ground. You land and find your rifle in six pieces. You're going to have to use your pistol until you find a new rifle. What is the name of the standard pistol used in the U.S. Army during World War II?

Answer: Colt 45

The Colt .45 was and still is a standard issue pistol used in the U.S. Army. It is, of course, a .45 caliber pistol created by Colt's Manufacturing Company. Many variations have been created, but the one used in World War II was the M1911 variation, one of the original versions with a spring recoil for less gun movement during rapid fire, increasing accuracy.
3. You ready your pistol for any surprise encounters. You walk up to a barn and peek around the corner. Your squad is nowhere to be found, but you see two Germans standing on guard with their backs to you and you can't see anything around them. What would be the smartest thing to do in this situation?

Answer: Sneak past the guards and continue looking for your squad

Even though you may have wanted to kill the two of them to prevent any further "encounters" with them, it could mean the end of you. You can't see anything around them, so you don't know what else may be waiting for you. There may even be a tank! Attempting to regroup with your squad would be the best decision because then you can backtrack to the same spot later with greater force. And unless you're extremely talented with a pistol, it would only take one enemy to take you out.
4. After making your decision as to whatat to do, you continue through the forest. As your walking, you think you hear movement around you. You take a few more cautious steps forward, but you freeze when you hear a voice call to you "Flash!" What do you reply?

Answer: Thunder

This was a method used in the war to determine who was who when they couldn't tell by looks alone since an American uniform could occasionally be mistaken for a German uniform, especially in this situation, where little light is provided. "Flash" would be called from one unit and the other unit responds "Thunder" to indicate they are friendly.
5. You've answered the mystery statement correctly. A squad of three American soldiers emerge from the trees, one of which you recognize. He is from your original squad in the plane. The other two are also stragglers who grouped together after being lost themselves. And wouldn't you know it, they brought you a real gun. However, it's not what you're used to. It's a German submachine gun. What was it called again?

Answer: MP40

The MP40 was the standard German submachine gun used in World War II. Currently, it is out of commission as a military weapon. It was made entirely out of metal and had a folding stock on the back of it. It used a 32-round 9mm clip and shot fully automatic from a short barrel.
6. You lead your squad of three back to the barn and the two German soldiers you previously encountered. However, there are five of them now. What is the best course of action to handle this threat, without running away from it?

Answer: Scout the area for vantage points and take them by surprise

Finding vantage points to pick them off quickly is definitely the best option, for the fewer shots fired the better. That automatically rules out the bull rush. More sound means more attention, making explosions a big no-no. Grenades are bad enough, and an airstrike is just excessive, highly visible and audible, and a complete waste of ordanance on five soldiers.

Answer: Make a slow approach, assess the situation and plan accordingly

Assessing the situation is almost always the preferred option. This way, your plan can be more effective. Rushing out could easily get you killed if there was more than just the tank there. Also, either waiting or running with your tail between your legs is definitely NOT in the field manual. In the American Army, you do not leave a soldier behind.
8. You've made your decision. However, no matter what your decision, you find no safe route around the tank, but you do discover it is alone. You must destroy it. You have an arsenal of four submachine guns, three grenades, a single RPG round, and a few pistols. What weapon do you use?

Answer: Mount the tank from behind and toss a grenade down the hatch, killing the occupants

Had the tank been a Panzer I or Panzer II, the RPG might have worked, but the Tiger tank was one of the most heavily armored tanks of its time, so it would take more than just one rocket to take it out. No bullet from a submachine gun could pierce this behemoth's hide, and a pistol would barely grab its attention.

The grenade is the way to go, as it takes out the enemy personnel and may leave the Tiger sufficiently intact to allow you to use it to your advantage.
9. The tank is now taken care of and its previous victims have emerged with two dead and one wounded, but still in fighting condition, out of the five that were there. Together, you make a squad of seven. You would take the Tiger, but no one has the expertise to operate it. The best course of action is to leave it and move on.

Answer: False

Leaving an intact Tiger tank behind would be a mistake. That leaves it open for use by any passing German soldiers, creating a new threat to another passing squad. The best decision is to take out key parts of the interior to make it inoperable. Doing this prevents any further use of this tank and creates heavy cover for any squad who may get into a firefight around it.

Answer: True

It may not be the safest thing now, but otherwise German forces would be bound to find them later on and ambush them. Moving out immediately gives this group a fighting chance against what may lie ahead. And whatever that may be ... well, you are quite well prepared for it.
