1. Who is the only general in United States history to accept the surrender of three armies?

Answer: Ulysses. S. Grant. During the Civil War.

During the Civil War Grant accepted the surrenders of the Confederate armies at Fort Donelson, Vicksburg and Appomattox Courthouse. U.S. Grant also served as the 18th President.
2. What Civil War general suffered the highest number of casualties during the Civil War?

Answer: Robert E. Lee

Lee not only had the highest total, but with his surrender at Appomattox Courthouse he had a casualty rate nearly 100%.
3. What was the bloodiest battle fought in North America before the Civil War?

Answer: Battle of Fort Carillon in July 1758

A French force of 3,500 successfully defended the fort from almost 17,000 British. The total killed and wounded were over 2,500 of which over 2,000 were British.
4. What important battle early in the American Revolution had no deaths?

Answer: The taking of Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775.

Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold shared command. Henry Knox hauled most of the cannon to Boston. These cannon are what led to the British evacuating Boston.
5. Where was the Battle of Bennington fought?

Answer: Hoosick, New York.

An important and underrated battle of the American Revolution. The Bennington Battle Monument is in Bennington, Vermont. This was a major blow to the British who lost over 900 casualties in the battle.
6. Where was the most northerly conflict of the Civil War?

Answer: St. Albans, Vermont.

A little known footnote of the Civil War is the Confederate raid that had no consequence on the outcome of the war.
7. What was the bloodiest day in the history of North America?

Answer: September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam.

With over 22,000 casualties, Antietam was by far the bloodiest day. Gettysburg had more casualties but took place over three days.
8. What war did the battle of Vera Cruz occur in?

Answer: The Mexican War

The Mexican War gave many who would later be generals in the Civil War their first real combat experience.
9. Who was President during the War of 1812?

Answer: James Madison

Some footnotes: the Star Spangled Banner was written during this war and the White House was burned by the British. The Battle Of New Orleans was fought two weeks after the war's end.
10. Who won the French and Indian War?

Answer: The British

The consequences of this war are usually underrated. The war was costly to the British who in turn raised taxes in the American colonies and led directly to the American Revolution.
