The assault on the train took place near Bridego Bridge north of London. The fifteen robbers transported the 120 mailbags to a farm in Buckinghamshire (Leatherslade Farm).

They first got their victims drunk, then smothered them and sold their corpses to some Dr Fox who was unaware of the way in which they had acquired the {corpses;Hare} turned king's evidence and was released. He disappeared and was heard of no more. Burke was hanged in 1829.
