Answer: Gherman Titov

Gherman Titov flew the Vostok 2 mission on August 6, 1961. He orbited for just over a day and suffered from bouts of motion sickness. Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom both flew prior to Titov but flew sub-orbital missions. John Glenn was the first American and the 3rd man to orbit the Earth.

This mission had problems to begin with, the original target Agena was launched and plunged into the Atlantic. The uncooperative target vehicle was actually the backup. Rendezvous and station keeping were still accomplished.

The lunar module was called Challenger and the command module was called America. Columbia and Endeavor are also shuttle names that had been used in the Apollo program.

Svetlana Savitskaya was also the second woman in space and the first woman to perform an EVA. Sally Ride was the first American woman to make two spaceflights, Kathryn Sullivan was the first American woman to perform an EVA and Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space.

McCandless made his first spaceflight 18 years after joining NASA on STS-41B in 1984, during which he performed the first untethered spacewalk.

Crippen flew the first shuttle mission with John Young in 1981. The 7th group was transferred from the Manned Orbiting Laboratory in 1969. In addition to those mentioned, the group also included Gordon Fullerton, Robert Overmyer and Richard Truly. All 7 flew in the space shuttle program.
