1. Which was the biggest tank battle in World War 2?

Answer: Kursk

In this battle in July-August 1943 the Germans lost 681 tanks and assault guns and Stalin lost 6,064 tanks and assault guns according to Wikipedia, but despite this it was a Soviet victory and Germany never regained the initiative on the Eastern Front.
2. Which of these battles is known to many people as the key turning point on the Eastern Front?

Answer: Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad (defined as the whole Stalingrad campaign) lasted from 23 August 1942 till 2 February 1943.

Some professional military historians, however, regard the German defeat in the Battle of Moscow (1941-42) as the key turning point on the Eastern Front, as it meant that the original plan to defeat the Soviet Union in a gigantic blitzkrieg had failed.
3. What is generally regarded as Hitler's worst mistake?

Answer: Attacking the Soviet Union

Hitler didn't attack Pearl Harbor, Japan did.

Attacking the Soviet Union was a huge gamble, as it involved something akin to blitzkrieg on a gigantic scale. Germany was not well placed to win a prolonged war of attrition.
4. When did Hitler's "Atlantic Wall" start to collapse?

Answer: June 6, 1944 D-day

Leningrad was a siege that lasted about 872 days. The German defences as a whole on the western and northern coasts of France were referred to as the "Atlantikwall" - Atlantic Wall, though the northern coast of France is on the Channel, not the Atlantic.
5. When did the battle of Berlin start?

Answer: April 16, 1945

May 8 is the date when Germany surrendered and is V-E day in the West while the East, it is May 9. April 16 was when Russia reached Berlin, thus starting the battle of Berlin.
6. When did the battle of Kursk begin?

Answer: July 4, 1943

It wasn't winter because tanks can't move in the winter. And January is winter. I made up the other dates.
7. When did the battle of Moscow begin?

Answer: Oct. 2

The Battle of Moscow was called Operation Typhoon and at one point some German soldiers could see the skyline of Moscow. However, the Germans, however, were eventually pushed back. Operation Typhoon is a cool name.
8. What happened in Operation Barbarossa?

Answer: Hitler attacked the Soviet Union

Barbarossa was the nickname ('red beard' in Italian) of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I (reigned 1155-90). There were legends about him as a future 'saviour' of Germany.
9. Operation Sealion was an attempt to attack _____ .

Answer: Britain

Finland was attacked by Russia. Sealion however, was never placed into action and was abandoned by the Germans due to the failure to eliminate the RAF (the Royal Air Force).
10. Why did Britain and France declare war on Germany?

Answer: Germany attacked Poland

They had promised to declare war if Poland was attacked (by Germany). The aim of this was to deter Hitler from attacking. Hitler thought they were bluffing and attacked (with the Soviet Union going to war against Poland 16 days later). Germany and the Soviet Union divided Poland between them.
