Answer: Kentucky

Because Kentucky remained in the Union, the citizens who volunteered for the CSA went into the Orphans' Brigade, the 1st Kentucky.
2. Matthew Brady was credited with Civil War photographs but, this man actualy took the pictures of the battlefield at Antietam?

Answer: Alexander Gardner

He and his assistant, James Gibson, took the pictures but the credit was given to Brady.
3. What was the duration of Sherman's march to the sea?

Answer: 26 days

The march lasted from 15 November to December 10, 1864.
4. Where was Gen. Lee's first engagement of the war?

Answer: Cheat Mountain

Cheat Mountain is in western Virginia (now West Virginia) where Brig. Gen. Joseph Reynolds defeated him.
5. Johnny Clem never went to West Point, but was commisioned an officer in 1871. What was the highest rank he attained?

Answer: Major General

He failed to pass the entrance exam for West Point. He retired in 1915 and, a year later, was promoted promoted to the rank of major general on the retired list.

Located on a government-owned island between Davenport, Iowa, and Rock Island/Moline, Illinois.

Pressured by the Union forces Gen. Lee split his army in two. He was forced to fight the Union forces in three engagements, which cost him 8,000 soldiers being taken prisoner leaving him with only about 13,000 men to face Grant.

Pvt. Jacob Parott was a member of the Andrews raiders that tried to sabotage the Atlantic and Western railroad north of Atlanta, Ga.

Answer: Joseph Hooker

After the battle Lincoln saw he made a mistake and replaced Gen. Burnside. Hooker did not fare well either, meeting disaster at Chancellorsville in May 1863.
