Answer: Gen. James Ledlie

Gen. James Ledlie was a drunkard and an uncourageous man. He gained his rank through influential friends. Less than two weeks prior to this he lain on the ground drunk, as his troops attacked CSA lines and suffered 841 casualties.

Answer: 8,694

Attending the 50th reunion 8,694 CSA veterans came. Attending the 75th reunion 486 CSA veterans came.

The size was much the same on both sides. The 6'x 6' was standard for the infantry. The cavalry and mounted riflemen units carried a much smaller flag than those serving on foot.

Hardee was a Corps commander and attacked the Union troops. When Hood arrived he ordered a frontal attack on the Union positions led by Benjamin Cheatham. This attacked failed with Hood losing about 8,000 men.

There was an agreement on exchange of prisoners but the North and South occasionally held prisoners of war as hostages in retaliation for some actions taken by the other side. When 7 of Col. Mosby's men were captured and executed, he, in turn, had his Union prisoners select 7 from their ranks and had them executed.

On April 27,1895 a parade through the city was held to open the monument and proved to be the most popular attraction in New York.
