Dying at 90 years, Adams had the record of the nation's longest- living president until Ronald Reagan broke it. Adams is quoted as saying "Thomas Jefferson survives" not knowing that Jefferson had died a few hours earlier that day.

Twenty-four men were lawyers. Eleven were merchants and nine were farmers and large plantation owners. They were in general well educated men.
