1. Who was the founder of the Nazi Party?

Answer: Drexler

Anton Drexler founded the "Deutsche Arbeiter-Partei" (DAP) - "German Workers' Party" in Munich late in 1918. Adolf Hitler was originally sent to spy on it - but instead joined it, in 1919. The party was refounded in 1920, again by Anton Drexler, as the NSDAP, but he was soon sidelined by Hitler.
2. What position did Joachim von Ribbentrop hold in the Nazi government?

Answer: Foreign Minister

Ribbentrop was appointed as the Foreign Minister in 1938. He was tried by the Nürnberg Tribunal after the war, found guilty of war crimes and hanged. While in prison he wrote his memoirs, "Zwischen London und Moskau".
3. It is well known that the swastika was the symbol of Hitler's Third Reich. What did the Germans call it?

Answer: Hakenkreuz

Hakenkreuz means "hook cross." It was adopted in 1920. Swarzyca is the Polish translation, Sayagata is the Japanese translation and Kolovrat is another Polish translation.
4. Which of these is the German abbreviation for the Nazi party?

Answer: NSDAP

NSDAP stands for "Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" - the National Socialist German Workers' Party. The abbreviation NSDAP is sometimes also used in English.
5. On 27 February 1933 the Reichstag (German Parliament building) was burned. What did this allow Hitler to do?

Answer: To restrict civil liberties of his opponents in Germany.

Hitler blamed the Communists for the fire and convinced President Hindenburg that a Communist attempt to seize power was imminent. The Reichstag fire soon led to the end of democracy in Germany. It allowed Hitler to pass the infamous Reichstag Fire Decree, which effectively suspended most basic human rights, and also introduced the death penalty for a wide range of offences.
6. In 1930 there were 129,583 members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or Nazi Party.

Answer: True

There were 129,583 members of the Party in 1930. Later, in 1933, the Party had jumped to 849,009 members and in the early war years, the Party grew to more than five million.
7. In which year did Hitler's Third Reich replace the German flag?

Answer: 1933

German nationalists had taken great exception to the the black-red-gold flag of the Weimar Republic as it was associated with 1848 and thus with democracy. The Weimar flag was abolished on March 12, 1933 and replaced, briefly, with the black-white-red flag of the Bismarckian Empire. On September 15, 1935, the swastika was officially incorporated into the Third Reich flag, and the flag of the country and the Party became identical.
8. 'In the red we see the social idea of the movement, in the white, the Nationalist idea and in the Hakenkreuz the vision of the struggle for the victory of the Aryan man.' This passage is from which historical writing?

Answer: Mein Kampf

'Mein Kampf' is regarded as the bible of National Socialism. Interestingly, the original title of Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' was 'My Four-and-a-Half-Year Struggle, against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice.' His publisher persuaded him to shorten the title.
9. The Beer Hall Putsch was what?

Answer: an attempt to overthrow the government

During the November 1923 Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler tried but failed to take control of the conservative Bavarian state government as the first step towards seizing control of the government in Berlin. Hitler's plan collapsed and he was arrested and put on trial for his involvement in the attempt.
10. Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945 by combining a dose of cyanide with a gunshot to the head. He had obtained the cyanide (pills) through Himmler's SS but doubted the authenticity of the capsules. As a result, Hitler tried the cyanide on his dog, which died soon after. What was the dog's name?

Answer: Blondi

Blondi was a German Shepherd dog, that had been given to Hitler as a gift in 1941 by Martin Bormann. Hitler was very fond of the dog and even let her sleep in his bunker. Eva Braun, Hitler's partner also commited suicide that day, but it is recorded that Blondi's death affected the people in the bunker more than Eva Braun's suicide had.
