Answer: Langley

This ship was built originally as a fleet collier named Jupiter. It was converted to a carrier in 1920.
2. What was the name of the CV-2?

Answer: Lexington

The Lexington was the first of the 2 ships in the Lexington class, the second being the CV-3 Saratoga. They were commissioned by the end of 1927.
3. How many aircraft carriers have been commissioned in the US Navy before the Japanese attack in Pearl Harbor?

Answer: 8

These were the following: Langley, Lexington, Saratoga, Ranger, Yorktown, Enterprise, Wasp and Hornet.

These were the Saratoga, Ranger and Enterprise.

The Lexington last task was as a trianing carrier. She was decommissioned in November 1991. The other 3 carriers were the other longset serving ships in the Essex class, but they were decommissioned in the 70's.
9. Which carrier of those serving in WWII had the shortest period of service?

Answer: CV-8 Hornet

THe Hornet was commissioned on 20 Oct. 1941 and was sunk at the battle of Santa Cruz Islands on 26 Oct. 1942. This is 1 year and 6 days.

The other ships had also very short service life. The Wasp seved 1 year and 5 months until sunk. The Princeton served 1 year and 8 months until sunk. The Franklin served 3 years and 1 months until decommissioned in 1947.
10. How many ships were in the light carrier Independence class?

Answer: 9

These were the CVL-22 to CVL-30 commissioned during 1943.
