6. A battleship that was never built, designed as a super battleship.

The Montana was designed to be the best battleship of its time but war ended before it could be built. After the war there was no need for the battleship any more because air power could easily sink a battleship, so the Montana was never built.
7. The US warship that fired the first American shot in World War 2.

Answer: USS Ward

The USS Ward was a Wickes class destroyer and it fired the first American shot in World War 2. It was on patrol outside Pearl Harbor when it spotted a Japanese midget sub following the USS Antares trying to sneak into the base. The first shot from the Ward just narrowly missed the conning tower but the second shot hit the sub, probably killing the commander. Ward then released several depth charges and the submarine disappeared. USS Ward was herself sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
8. The first US warship to be sunk in the Atlantic ocean.

Answer: USS Reuben James

USS Reuben James was a post World War 1, four funnel Clemson class destroyer. She was sunk by the German submarine U-552 by a torpedo meant for a merchant ship. She sank immediately.
9. What was the heavy cruiser that was sunk soon after carrying parts for the atomic bomb?

Answer: USS Indianapolis

USS Indianapolis was a Portland class heavy cruiser. It delivered parts of the atom bomb to Tinian and was sunk by a Japanese submarine on the way back. The survivors of the ship were repeatedly attacked by sharks in their wait for rescue.

Answer: USS Enterprise

USS Enterprise was a Yorktown class carrier. It received over 20 battle stars for her service. She was the only Yorktown class carrier to survive the war.
