Elizabeth "Libbie" Bacon married George Armstrong Custer in 1864 while he was a young cavalry officer fighting in the Civil War. After Custer was killed at the Little Bighorn, his widow devoted her life to preserving and defending his memory. Libbie Custer died on April 4, 1933.
