Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Of the four poker hands listed, which is the highest hand?

Answer: four of a kind

From lowest to highest, the hands are high card, two of a kind, two pairs, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, and royal flush.
Whoever has the highest hand wins the round. If two players have the highest hand type, then whoever has the highest card ranks wins. If there's still a tie, then the winnings are split.
2. In Hearts, what happens if a player collects the Queen of Spades and all cards that are hearts?

Answer: All other players gain 26 points.

Normally, the Queen of Spades is worth 13 points and hearts are worth one point. However, if a player collects the Queen of Spades and all hearts, then all other players gain 26 points while the player with those cards gains no points. This is called shooting the moon.
In some versions of the game, the player with the cards subtracts 26 points from his or her score while everybody else has their score unaffected.
3. In Uno, which card does not exist?

Answer: Swap a card with another player

The goal of Uno is to discard all the cards in a player's hand. Most of the cards have a color of their cards along with a number. The idea is to place one card on top of another card with either the same color or the same number. Other cards include a Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, Draw Four, and two types of Wild card. One is a simple Wild card where the player can play it at any time and change the current color.

The other type is similar to that but it also results in the next player drawing four cards from the stack.
4. In baccarat, which of the following hands will result in a score of five?

Answer: Nine of Diamonds and Six of Spades

In baccarat, tens and face cards are worth nothing while everything else is worth their numerical value. The score is the right-most digit when adding up the values to get the total. For example, a Nine of Diamonds and Six of Spades would have a total of 15. The right-most digit is five; therefore, the score is five.
This also means that nine is the highest score a player can have in a round of baccarat.
5. In blackjack, suppose a player has two cards of equal value. What is it possible to do in this scenario that it is not possible to do in any other scenario?

Answer: split

A player has the option to split if and only if their two cards are the same value. This is done by splitting up the two cards. An additional bet is made and two additional cards are given to the player, one for each of the split cards. In essence, the player is now playing two games of blackjack.
In some cases, tens, jacks, queens, and kings are counted as the same value and if a player has a mixture of them (for example, a jack and a king), then that person is allowed to split. A hand of 21 without a split is considered better than a hand of 21 with a split.
6. Klondike is an example of a Solitaire game.

Answer: True

A Solitaire game, as the name implies, is a game that can be played by a single person. Klondike is one such game.
The object of Klondike is to order the playing cards from Ace to King by suit. Therefore, there are four groups: one from each of the four suits. There are also seven rows. The first row has one card face-up. The second row has two cards: one face-up and one face-down. This continues until the seventh row with seven cards: one face-up and six face-down.
The remaining cards are shuffled and placed in a stack one on top of the other (the draw pile). Players must find the correct cards to play in order to win.
Variations of the game include going through the draw pile once or an unlimited amount of times. Another variation is to draw one card at a time or three cards at a time.
7. In freecell solitaire, how many decks of cards are used?

Answer: one

A single deck of cards is used in a game of freecell solitaire. There are eight rows of cards: the first four with seven cards and the next four with six cards. The goal is to order the cards from Ace to King in the same suit. Cards can be moved on top of each other as long as it's the same suit and the moved card is one less than the card it's being moved to. (For example, a Jack of Clubs can only be moved and placed on top of a Queen of Clubs.)
8. Suppose Old Maid were to be played with a standard deck of cards. If the Ace of Spades was removed, which card is the old maid?

Answer: Ace of Clubs

In Old Maid, the goal is to not be left with the card without a match. A special deck of cards is made for Old Maid; however, players can use a standard deck of cards. If this is the case, then the pairs are the values of the same color: hearts matched with diamonds and clubs matched with spades. If the Ace of Spades was removed, then that means the Ace of Clubs is the old maid, the card a player doesn't want to be stuck with.
Another variation is to insert a joker and have that card be the old maid.
9. In Crazy Eights, suppose the up card is the Queen of Hearts. Which card can not be played next?

Answer: Ace of Spades

In Crazy Eights, the idea is to place a card with the same value or the same suit on top of the up card. In this case, the up card is the Queen of Hearts, meaning that either a queen or a heart can be played. Additionally, eights of any suit can be played, and the player playing the eight has to decide which suit should be used.
The Ace of Spades is neither an eight, a queen, nor a heart. Therefore, it can not be played immediately after the Queen of Hearts.
10. How many jokers usually come with a standard deck of cards?

Answer: two

There are two jokers in a deck of cards. The term is believed to have come from the word "jucker", the German spelling of Euchre. The appearance of jokers varies with each deck of cards. Jokers were considered to be the highest trump in card games that used trump cards. In card games that use a joker, they are either wild cards or cards of great importance.
