Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Do you like the taste of chocolate? (Who doesn't!) If you do, I'll bet you would like, or already like, Count Chocula. The mascot for this cereal is somewhat scary. Exactly who or what is Count Chocula?

Answer: a vampire

Count Chocula is a vampire, sort of like Count Dracula in the movies. He wears a dark cape and he loves to sink his big teeth into his favorite cereal, which of course, is Count Chocula.
The Count started being the cereal's mascot in 1971.
2. Froot Loops have been around for over 50 years and they are still very popular. They come in many different colors and (so I've been told), are all really good. Froot Loops' mascot is a bird, do you know his name?

Answer: Toucan Sam

Toucan Sam has a REALLY big nose, which helps him find Fruit Loops even when he's not very close to them. He loves to yell "follow my nose", when he's trying to find them.
He has been the Fruit Loops mascot since 1963.
3. Folks have been eating Trix cereal since 1954. When Trix first came out, there were only three colors of cereal pieces, now there are a bunch more. One thing that has not changed is the mascot, who is an animal. What is that cute mascot called?

Answer: The Trix rabbit

The Trix rabbit had the choice of red, orange or yellow cereal bites in 1954. Nowadays the choices include a wide variety of flavors including orange, lemon, cherry, grape, lime, blueberry, and even watermelon!
Aren't you glad you weren't a kid in the 1950s (or were you)?
4. Honey Smacks has had a few different mascots since it came out in 1953. The first one was Smaxey the Seal. After several other mascots came and went, an amphibian became the Honey Smacks mascot in the 1970s. Can you name this green mascot?

Answer: Dig'em the Frog

Some of Honey Smacks other mascots have been Quick Draw McGraw, The Smackin' Bandit, and an Indian chief. Dig'em the Frog loves Sugar Smacks and says "they're smackin' good". (He also says "ribbitt" a lot too.)
5. Cap'n Crunch cereal, a sugary combination of corn and oats, has been around since 1963. Over that time Cap'n Horatio Magellan Crunch has been its only mascot. Do you know the name of his ship?

Answer: the Good Ship Guppy

Since the original cereal first came out, there have been more than 15 different varieties, each with a special taste. Some of them are Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries, Peanut Butter Crunch, Home Run Crunch, and Cinnamon Roll Crunch. My favorite is the Peanut Butter Crunch.
6. Cocoa Puffs was the first chocolate flavored cereal when it became a breakfast treat in 1958. It has had Sonny the Cuckoo Bird for its mascot beginning way back then. He has a special saying when he talks about how much he loves the cereal. What is it that Sonny says?

Answer: I'm cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

Sonny the Cuckoo Bird has been "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs" for a very long time, because he loves how chocolatey, munchy, and crunchy they are. One of his favorite hobbies is skateboarding. I would think that would be pretty tough for a bird, wouldn't you? Probably only a cuckoo bird would even try it!
7. Rice Krispies has been one of America's favorite cereals since the 1930s. Perhaps your parents, grandparents and maybe even great-grandparents have all had the chance to enjoy them. Since the time Rice Krispies was first sold, they have had three elves (who are brothers), as their mascots. Can you name this trio?

Answer: Snap, Crackle, and Pop

It's easy to tell them apart, since Snap (the oldest) wears a baker's hat, while Crackle (the middle elf) has a military marching hat, and the youngest, Pop, prefers to wear a red and white cap. The "snap, crackle and pop" are supposed to sound like the noise you hear when you chomp down on a spoonful of Rice Krispies.
8. The General Mills company first made Honey Nut Cheerios in 1979. At that time it had a bee as its mascot, but the poor little bee didn't have a name. After a contest the name BuzzBee was chosen for the mascot. Since then it has been changed, do you know the new name of the Honey Nut Cheerios mascot?

Answer: Buzz

Believe it or not, when General Mills ran a contest for anyone in the country to pick the bee's name, it was a young Texas grade school student who did it!
The cereal is even sweeter than regular Cheerios, and for years Buzz used to say, "No one can say NO to Honey Nut Cheerios". Why would they, since Honey Nut Cheerios are so delish?
9. Lucky folks have been eating Lucky Charms since the 1960s. The cereal became very popular, partially because it was the first cereal to add pieces of marshmallow. (How cool an idea was that)? Lucky Charms mascot is someone named Lucky. What kind of a creature is Lucky?

Answer: A leprechaun

Lucky the Leprechaun has been heard describing Lucky Charms as being "magically delicious". The marshmallow bits come in different shapes and colors. You can enjoy marshmallows shaped like balloons (red), a rainbow (orange or yellow) and even a pot of gold (guess what color that is).
In case you get the munchies later in the day, you can try one of their snack bars, Chocolate Lucky Charms, or Lucky Charms Marshmallow Treats.
10. I can remember eating Kellogg's Frosted Flakes before going to school, when they first came out in 1952. (That makes me feel pretty old!) The sugary coated corn flakes found a mascot by running a contest to pick the best one. Who is the Frosted Flakes mascot who says "they're gr-r-reat"!

Answer: Tony the Tiger

Tony the Tiger became the first mascot Frosted Flakes ever had way back over 70 years ago. When they first came out they were called Sugar Frosted Flakes, but since the 1980s they have been just plain old, delicious, Frosted Flakes.
The other three names shown above were other possible mascots, but in the end, Tony the Tiger won out, and I think that's "gr-e-eat"!
