Governor Jim Hodges made the final decision by saying that the Palmetto Tree represents the strength of South Carolina, the Carolina Wren's song symbolizes hospitality of the State's people and the Yellow Jessamine flower is a sign of spring coming-part of South Carolina's natural beauty.
