Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the very first Limited Edition figurine offered to Collectors Society members?

Answer: The Lovebirds

Issued in 1987 this was the first part of a Trilogy named "Caring and Sharing" comprising "The Lovebirds", "Turtle Doves" and "The Woodpeckers". Priced at £85 in the UK the price has since soared, steadying at around £2,600. This is because of its rarity.

It was not issued Globally, but was restricted to English speaking Countries, so collectors in other Countries wanting to complete their Trilogy have pushed up the secondary market price.
2. The 1990 - 1992 Trilogy was called "Mother and Baby" and contained Whales, Dolphins and what other creatures?

Answer: Seals

Each figurine comprised a mother with her baby alongside her, and for this Trilogy smaller figurines of the same creatures were also made which were not limited to Collectors Society Members, but were for general sale.
3. Swarovski have only twice depicted human figures instead of animals in their Limited Edition Trilogies. One featured aspects of dance. What was this Trilogy called?

Answer: Magic of The Dance

Starting in 2002 "Magic of The Dance" contained "Anna", "Isadora" and "Antonio".

"Anna" was Anna Pavlova, "Isadora" was Isadora Duncan and "Antonio" was Antonio Ruiz Soler. Extras, including an "Anna" jewel box, a revolving, lit, stand, and title plaques for each figure, were also available.
4. "Wonders of The Sea" was the first Trilogy to do what?

Answer: Offer a choice of clear or coloured crystal

For 2005 - 2007 the "Wonders of The Sea" Trilogy featured "Harmony Clownfish","Eternity Turtles" and "Community Banner Fish" and for the first time there was a choice of clear or coloured crystal. Pieces were limited to one of each per Member.
5. Every year Collectors Society Members receive a free gift when they renew their membership. Which of the following has NOT been a renewal gift?

Answer: Crystal Roses

Over the years the free gifts have become highly collectible, and have also improved in size and quality. The first was a small crystal cactus standing only about three quarters of an inch high.

Crystal roses have been available in the past, but to buy, not as a Membership gift.

The other two items have been Membership gifts, the tulips, keeping up the Trilogy theme, came in three colours, issued at one per year.
6. The first Trilogy to feature human figurines was "Masquerade". Which people did it depict?

Answer: Harlequin, Columbine, Pierrot

Issued for the 1999 - 2001 series this was also the first Trilogy to include touches of colour, a theme that was continued in "Magic of the Dance". Although the introduction of colour was popular, overall the two human series were not as popular with collectors as the animal figurines and the theme of animals was reinstated in 2005.
7. The "Inspiration Africa" Trilogy comprised three land mammals. What were they?

Answer: Elephant, Lion, Kudu

Issued in 1993 - 1995 this is my personal favourite Trilogy, not least because several other animals, such as Rhinocerous and Hippopotamus were issued for general sale in mother and baby versions, as well as various sized Elephants, making it possible to build up a sizeable themed collection.
8. The "Fabulous Creatures" Trilogy contains which creature from Chinese mythology?

Answer: Dragon

This Trilogy, issued 1996 - 1998, was made up of "Pegasus", "Unicorn" and "Chinese Dragon". There are many Dragons in Chinese mythology and Swarovski chose the Chinese dragon chasing the pearl of wisdom. This is a particularly beautiful set, but because of the make up of the various pieces needs handling with care. The Unicorn horn is especially vulnerable to damage.
9. In recent years the renewal gifts for Members have also come in threes. For 1996 - 1998 crystal hearts were given. Which colours did these come in?

Answer: Clear, Blue, Red

Each heart came in its own heart shaped box, and if you purchased Membership for a 3 year period there was a bonus gift of a bag of miniature hearts as well.
10. If you want to retain the investment value of your Limited Edition Trilogies what should you do?

Answer: All of these

Strictly speaking you should probably keep the figurines in their boxes to retain the full "mint and boxed" condition, but who wants to buy something so beautiful and never look at it?
