Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "You can like the life you're living, you can live the life you like." What show is this from?

Answer: Chicago

The song is "Nowadays", which is also sung as a solo version in the movie. The song talks about how exciting and free life can be these days!
2. This song is from "The Phantom of the Opera", and it's sung between Christine and her little dancer friend just before Christine meets Raoul. But I can't remember the name of the song! What is it?

Answer: Angel of Music

"The little dancer friend" is Meg Giry. The song finds Christine confiding in her friend about "the angel of music", even though Meg is a little dubious.
3. This song is called "If Mama Was Married", I remember that, and it's two girls singing how great it would be if their mom got married again. What's it from?

Answer: Gypsy

The song is sung by June and Louise, whose mother has forced them into show business, and they think if their mother would just get married again and settle down, everything would be fixed.
4. Someone said there was a song added to the original London production of "Into the Woods" that's an alto/soprano duet... what was its name?

Answer: Our Little World

The other three are songs from "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Phantom of the Opera", and "Parade". This song was cut from the show but was intended to be a duet between the Witch and Rapunzel. The London cast recording does have a copy of this song.
5. She'd sing, "As long as I can keep believing, I'll live" as I sang, "I wish you could tell what you don't want to tell." What musical is this from?

Answer: Miss Saigon

The song is "I Still Believe", sung by two women desperately in love with the same man, who has pledged himself to both of them. Neither knows the other exists.
6. This song is from my favorite movie, "West Side Story", sung between Anita and Maria, but I can't remember the name of it. The part I sing is called "A Boy Like That" but what's her part called?

Answer: I Have a Love

The other choices are songs from "Les Miserables", "Miss Saigon", and "Jekyll and Hyde". This song is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful alto-soprano duets ever. It has Anita trying to convince Maria to give up the boy she's seeing now (who has killed Anita's boyfriend) and find one of her "own kind". Maria then goes on to make a beautiful plea, saying, "I love him, we're one, there's nothing to be done". Finally Anita agrees that "when love comes so strong, there is no right or wrong, your love is your life".
7. "If he ever tries to stray from you, have a pot roast. Have a headache. Have a baby. Have two! Six! Nine! Stop!"

Answer: "Marry the Man Today" from "Guys and Dolls"

The song is sung by Adelaide and Sarah, two girls who are at a loss as to what to do with their guys. Finally, the two decide to marry their men today, despite the character flaws the men have.
8. It includes lines like, "Only a bosom buddy will tell you how rotten you are!" What is it from?

Answer: Mame

The song is "Bosom Buddies", and it's sung by Mame and Verna, two best friends, and is a classic friendship song.
9. This song is technically a duet, although it's often sung solo. It's talking about "a master criminal who can defy the law". What is it?

Answer: "Macavity" from "Cats"

The song tells of all the exploits of the master feline criminal, Macavity. The song is technically sung between Bombalurina and Demeter, but often is just sung solo.
10. "A Very Nice Prince" is from "Into the Woods", I know that much, but is it a soprano-alto duet? What characters sang it?

Answer: Cinderella and the Baker's Wife

The song finds Cinderella unsure if she wants the prince's attention, and the Baker's Wife laughing at her uncertainty. "I never wish just within reason," the Baker's Wife says as Cinderella keeps protesting, "How can you know what you want 'til you get what you want and you see if you like it?"
