Answer: Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Green Day released "American Idiot", their seventh album, in 2004 as a "punk rock opera". Director Michael Meyer talked to the band about a stage adaptation after hearing the album, and the musical was produced and opened in 2009.

Oddly, Green Day might never have been inspired to make the original album. They had been working on "Cigarettes & Valentines", but the master tapes were stolen from the studio. Rather than start over, they started anew and "American Idiot" was created.
2. In "The King and I" Tuptim and Lun Tha are in love, but Tuptim has been gifted to the King for his harem. As they plan of escape, they sing "I Have Dreamed". Can you fill in the lyric? "The King and I" opened on Broadway in 1951, adapted from the story "Anna and the King of Siam" found in a novel by Margaret Landon. Landon learned about Anna Leonowens while in Trang, Thailand, and after returning to the USA in 1937 she researched and then wrote the novel.

Yul Brynner played the role in the 1951 production, and would continue to play the role throughout his life. He received a Best Featured Actor Tony Award in 1952, and in 1985 he was awarded a Tony for his 4,625 performances of the role. He also portrayed the King in the movie version released in 1956, and won an Academy Award for that performance.

"The Wizard of Oz" was originally produced in 1902 as a stage musical based on the book by L. Frank Baum. The production was extremely popular. The revived musical was performed in a 1982 in a concert version, and also performed by other companies.

The question applies to the 1939 film version of the story. The new music was written by Harold Arlen and the lyrics were composed by Yip Harburg. The song was sung by Judy Garland, and for the remainder of her life it would be her signature song.

Answer: Out of My Dreams

"Oklahoma!" was the first musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein and opened on Broadway in 1943. It was unheard of to produce a show with no stars to draw in the paying public, and they had chosen to cast singers who could act (as opposed to actors who could sing). And to add to the list of firsts for this production, it was the first Broadway show choreographed by Agnes de Mille, who gave us the fantastic the dream ballet.

The music was created by Claude-Michel Schönberg, with lyrics by Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It opened in London's West End in 1989.

The story is adapted from Giacomo Puccini's opera "Madame Butterfly", but set in the Vietnam War. The story tells of two individuals (and two countries) with little knowledge of each other.

Before this scene Tevye has found out that his daughter loves the tailor Motel Camzoil although she is promised to the butcher Lazer-Wolfe. During the dream Golde's grandmother foretells of doom if the child marries Lazer-Wolfe, and this does convince Golde to allow the change.

"Fiddler on the Roof" was first released on Broadway in 1964. The music was created by Jerry Bock with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The story was adapted to a movie in 1971. It is believed that the name of the show actually came from a Marc Chagall painting from 1913, "The Fiddler".

Todd McKenney played the lead role in the Australia production. Hugh Jackman performed the role in the Broadway production that was modified for American audiences.
