Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Achilles was a legendary warrior who was invincible, except for his heel, but then I guess you could say that this became his fatal weakness. What caused the fatal weakness?

Answer: His mother 's carelessness

Thetis held Achilles under the waters of the river Styx to make him invincible, but since she held him by his heel, it was the only place that remained open to injury. She should have noticed that slight detail! Thetis had told Achilles that he had to choose a long and peaceful life or a short and glorious one (as a warrior). Achilles chose glory and paid the price for his pride when Paris shot the arrow that hit Achilles in the heel and ended his life. The expression "Achilles' heel" to denote a weakness comes from this myth.
2. Superman, the Man of Steel, also had a weakness, and it is related to his place of origin. What is Superman vulnerable to?

Answer: Kryptonite

Superman's planet, Krypton, exploded shortly after he was sent away in a rocketship by his parents to save his life. The pieces of the planet became meteorites of kryptonite, and they are the only thing to which Superman is vulnerable. Only lead can be used to isolate the element and protect Superman from its deadly effects.
3. Not all forms of Superman's vulnerability work the same way. Which color of the thing that is his weakness can make Superman turn wholly evil, see himself as twins, and produce other random effects?

Answer: Red

Green kryptonite is the most common variety, and it weakens and can even kill Superman if he is exposed to it for long enough. Yellow kryptonite doesn't exist. Black kryptonite is rarer, and it can make Superman split into two personalities (good and evil).
4. Vampires also have several weaknesses. Tell me which of the following is NOT one of them:

Answer: A mirror

Though, according to popular lore, vampires do show special differences when compared to humans with regard to all of the items mentioned, a mirror is not harmful to vampires and cannot really be considered a weakness of theirs. Vampires are not reflected in mirrors when they walk past them. Garlic and crucifixes cause vampires to feel pain and they tend to go away from their presence.

The sun and a stake through the heart are deadly to vampires and are the only way to kill them.
5. In the movie 'Sky High', Warren Peace has fire powers. In a fight to save the citizens, how did Warren Peace's enemies attack him?

Answer: By spinning around him

When Warren's enemies spun around him they got rid of all of the available oxygen, and that put out the fire and suffocated him.
6. Freakazoid, one of Warner Brothers' crazy characters, inadvertently helps his enemies by revealing his weakness. Do you know what it is?

Answer: Graphite bars

In the episode of 'Freakazoid!' where Freakazoid reveals his weakness, they try to attack him with kryptonite, with yellow paper, with salt, until the secret is finally let out of the bag and they build a jail with bars made of graphite. The show is a Steven Spielberg production.
7. The comic character Green Lantern can create objects with his mind with the help of his power ring. Despite this, he is not invincible. What is his weakness?

Answer: Fear itself

Fear is what eats up Green Lantern's powers, and though the color yellow is representative of fear or cowardice, in the comic book series, the color itself is not Green Lantern's weakness.
8. Goku, one of the best anime characters from the popular 'DragonBall' series, actually dies in the future. Which of his organs is destined to fail?

Answer: His heart

Though Goku has almost died many times in the series, this time it was his heart that succumbed to disease. Trunks comes from the future to bring the medicine needed to avoid Goku's death and the resulting destruction of the world.
9. Hercules was a famed mythical hero who faced all kinds of difficulties. Which of his relatives was the cause of his having to perform twelve hard labors?

Answer: His cousin

The goddess Hera blinded Hercules with fury and caused him to go crazy, killing his wife and children. When Hercules prayed to Apollo for forgiveness, he was told that he would have to perform ten labors as punishment, that would be imposed by his cousin, Eurystheus, the King of Mycenae. The original ten labors grew to twelve along the way!
10. When it finally came time for Hercules to die, who was it who gave him the tunic that led to the hero's death?

Answer: Deyanira

Nessus was a centaur who was killed by Hercules. Nessus gave Deyanira a cape with the blood of the hydra (Lerna) on it, ostensibly so that Deyanira could win Hercules back again. Unfortunately, the tunic that Deyanira gave him ended up poisoning Hercules and caused his death. Meghan is the name of Hercules' first wife.
