The musical is based on the Bible story of Joseph and his brothers. Bart wrote the "Oliver" lyrics, while Lerner and Loewe wrote and did the music for "My Fair Lady".
2. What was Jacob's alternative name?

Answer: Israel

"He was also known as Israel but most of the time, His sons and his wives used to call him dad." From "Jacob and Sons"
3. Why was Joseph Jacob's favourite son?

Answer: His mother was his favourite wife

Joseph reminded Jacob of his favourite wife. Jacob's other sons did not like Joseph, as he was their father's favourite. Jacob wanted to prove how much he loved Joseph so he brought him a multi-coloured coat. Joseph was Jacob's second youngest son, and Benjamin was the youngest.
4. Who did Joseph's brothers sell him to?

Answer: Ishmaelites

The brothers decided to sell Joseph to a passing group of Ishmaelites. Then they killed a goat and dipped Joseph's multi-coloured coat into the blood. They returned to Jacob and said that Joseph laid down his life for them. Joseph as a "angel" appears in the song "One More Angel in Heaven", unnoticed by his brothers.
5. What was the Baker's dream, which Joseph interpreted in the prison cell?

Answer: Birds eating his bread

The Butler, who is thrown into jail with the Baker, tells of a dream he has had about offering wine to Pharaoh. Joseph says he will be soon released, and resume his job as Butler. The Baker, hoping for the same happy ending tells Joseph of his dream of standing with a basket of bread. Birds come down and eat it all. Joseph says sadly, that the Baker is not so lucky, his execution date has already been set.

Although Joseph has been thrown into prison for being too friendly with Mrs. Potiphar, he does not give up faith, for one day the Children of Israel are promised a land of their own

Jacob had twelve sons - Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Napthali, Isaachar, Asher, Dan, Zebulun, Gad, Benjamin, Judah, and Joseph.

Answer: Benjamin

In "Benjamin Calypso" which is a calypso song, all the brothers say that Benjamin is the only trustworthy one in the family - apart from the other brother, Joseph. They do not know that they are talking to Joseph, and he is testing them.
9. What is Pharaoh troubled with?

Answer: Savage dreams

Pharaoh is based on Elvis Presley! Joseph, who is still in jail, interprets his dreams, but when Joseph explains the dreams, he is released and becomes a wealthy man.

Answer: Prologue

A lady is the narrator in the musical. We never discover her name. It is followed by "Any Dream will Do".
