Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ok, so which musical has a milkman, a butcher and a tailor?

Answer: Fiddler on the Roof

Topol played "Tevye", in the musical on film and onstage in London. He was also one of the actors who wanted to be considered for the role of "Jean Valjean" in the original production of "Les Miserables" in London.
2. Which musical has three ghosts (they have names), a spy, and a mayor?

Answer: Les Miserables

Two ghosts are "Fantine" and "Eponine", the spy is the policeman "Javert" when he infiltrates the students, and the mayor is "Valjean" as "Monsieur Madeline". The other ghost is Valjean again - he gets around this guy! - right at the very end we see him join Fantine and Eponine.
3. Which musical has a monster, a doctor, and a prostitute?

Answer: Jekyll and Hyde

The concept album of this musical proves just how amazing Anthony Warlow's voice is! Tremendous!
4. Which musical has a Teacher, a traitor and a turner of tricks?

Answer: Jesus Christ Superstar

The Teacher is "Jesus", the traitor "Judas" and "Mary", of course, is the turner of tricks.
5. Which musical has a death, a dream sequence and a brand new state?

Answer: Oklahoma

I have, over the last few years, grown quite fond of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Especially "Oklahoma" and "Carousel".
6. Which musical has a "ghost", some murders and a diva?

Answer: The Phantom of the Opera

Hopefully most people will get this one. "The Phantom" is the ghost who commits the murders, and the diva could be either Carlotta or Christine. Of course, it's not a real ghost, as we find out.
7. Which musical has a showgirl, a gangster and a piano player?

Answer: Copacabana

The showgirl is "Lola", the Gangster is "Rico" and "Tony" is the piano player. I was in the New Zealand Premiere of this musical in 2003.
8. Which musical has a librarian, a con man and an aversion to pool?

Answer: The Music Man

I haven't had much association with this musical having only seen it once. But it does have some neat songs and some famous ones such as "76 Trombones..."
9. Which musical has a dreamer, a king and a baker?

Answer: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

This musical started life as a 20 minute concert for schools and now, is one of the most produced of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musicals.
10. Which musical has a grandmaster or two, a wife and the other woman?

Answer: Chess

Written by the boys from ABBA and Tim Rice, this is one of my favourite musicals. Apparently didn't do as well in the States as it has elsewhere. I wonder why?
