Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What small berry grows in clumps on bushes in North America? It is delicious in pies.

Answer: Elderberry

The elderberry bush grows in various places around the world, but is more common in the Northern Hemisphere. The small berries grow in clumps and should be cooked before ingesting due to a toxicity that is present in the uncooked fruit. Elderberry pies are a favourite in many homes, but you have to be quick and pick enough for the pie before the birds get to the berries! They love them and will strip the bush clean in no time.
2. What is the school attended before secondary school in North America?

Answer: Elementary

The first school attended by children is known as the "primary school" or "junior school" in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, and South Africa. This same school is known as the "elementary school" in Canada and the US. Children attend elementary school from kindergarten or pre-kindergarten through to middle school or high school.

They typically attend elementary school for six grades, usually until the age of about fourteen years, although that can vary somewhat across school districts.

9. What is another word for "same"?

Answer: Equivalent

The word "equivalent" can be used as an adjective to mean equal in value, function, amount, etc. An example might be this sentence: John and Muhammad make equivalent wages at the factory. Equivalent can also be used as a noun to mean a person, place, or thing that is the same as some other. 10. What do some animals do to find their way around?

Answer: Echolocate

In order to echolocate, animals like bats and dolphins send out a sound and listen for the sound wave to be bounced back to them. They are able to tell where objects like prey are located based on the speed and direction of the echo that they receive. If the sound is received in the right ear before the left, they know that the object is closer to their right side.

Some humans have developed the skill of echolocation. For example, some blind individuals are able to navigate their environments by making tapping noises with their feet or canes, or clicking with their tongues, then listening for the echoes.
