Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character sings "Cold Clear World"?

Answer: Holmes

The role of Sherlock Holmes was originated on Broadway by Fritz Weaver, who has also been seen on the television shows "The X-Files" and "Falcon's Crest".
2. Peter Sallis played Professor Moriarty, Holmes' evil nemesis.

Answer: False

Peter Sallis played Watson, not Moriarty. Sallis served in World War II and later provided the voice of Wallace in the clay-animated television show "Wallace and Gromit".
3. How many Tony Awards did the show win?

Answer: One

Although nominated for Best Actress, Best Costume Design and Best Author of a Musical as well as Best Scenic Design, it only won Best Scenic Design. Oliver Smith designed the set for "Baker Street", and he died in 1994.
4. Professor Moriarty only sings one song. Which one is it?

Answer: I Shall Miss You

Moriarty was originated on Broadway by Martin Gabel; "Baker Street" was the only Broadway musical he ever appeared in. Gabel died in 1986 in New York.
5. What does Holmes dress as to elude his would-be killer?

Answer: A beggar

The killer shoots at a dummy, and is quickly apprehended by Holmes. The killer is none other than Sebastian Moran, an accomplice of Professor Moriarty.
6. Where do Moriarty and Holmes engage in hand-to-hand combat?

Answer: The Dover Cliffs

Holmes and Moriarty fight, and Moriarty is thrown over the cliffs of Dover. I guess that nixes any hope of a sequel.
7. Who sings "A Married Man"?

Answer: Watson

Watson sings this as he looks back on his married life as he and Holmes are trapped in a room with a ticking time bomb, courtesy of Professor Moriarty. Luckily the Baker Street Irregulars come and free them at the last second.
8. Holmes and Irene Adler are married in the end.

Answer: False

Although Adler and Holmes show a romantic interest in each other throughout the show, the show does not end with their wedding. In the original stories, Adler was Holmes' opposition, not his helper.
9. What profession does Irene Adler hold?

Answer: Actress

Irene is appearing in a stage play when we first meet her. She is Holmes' intellectual equal, and serves as his love interest. She is able to see through Holmes' disguise when he enters her living space.
10. Who directed the original Broadway run of "Baker Street"?

Answer: Hal Prince

Hal Prince has won many Tonys for his work; the shows he's directed include "Parade", "Sweeney Todd", "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Evita".
