Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What type of vehicle explodes at the beginning of the book?

Answer: School bus

At the time of the explosion, Lindsay Boxer and her work partner, Rich Conklin, were the first officers at the scene. It transpired that the school bus was used for the production of drugs and not to transport school children.
The school bus exploded due to the preparation of a volatile mixture of drugs, which was described by Conklin as a "mobile meths lab".
2. What is the 'street' name of the homeless man who is found murdered?

Answer: Bagman Jesus

Women's Murder Club member, newspaper reporter Cindy Thomas, was the first of the group at the scene of the murder of 'Bagman Jesus'. 'Bagman Jesus' was described by his peers as 'king of the street', and a 'bum with a heart of gold'. The post mortem revealed that he had been shot in the head and badly beaten.

The crucifix he wore was discovered in his throat. Cindy was annoyed that the police weren't investigating the murder and decided to do a story on 'Bagman Jesus'. The Chronicle newspaper posted a twenty five thousand dollar reward, leading to the arrest and conviction of his murderer.
3. Although not the first murder committed by 'Pet Girl', the deaths of Isa and Ethan Bailey were the first in the series investigated by Lindsay Boxer. What did 'Pet Girl' use to commit the murders?

Answer: Krait (a type of snake)

Rock star McKenzie Oliver was the first victim of 'Pet Girl' (whose real name is asked in a later question). His death was thought to be due to drugs and therefore not subject to a murder investigation. 'Pet Girl' used highly venomous snakes called kraits as her 'weapon' to commit the murders.

She knew Isa Bailey (nee Booth), as they went to school together until the death of 'Pet Girl's' father, when she was ten years of age. She subsequently worked for the Baileys and their friends, walking their dogs and doing other household jobs.

They referred to her as 'Pet Girl'.
4. How did Lindsay discover that Cindy Thomas and Rich Conklin were having a relationship?

Answer: She found Cindy's hair clip at Rich's apartment

Cindy and Rich had dinner together in a Thai restaurant, as Cindy was helping Rich with research in to a series of 'high-society' murders which had occurred in 1982, by retrieving articles from The Chronicle. Following dinner he spent the night with her and their relationship started. Cindy didn't want Lindsay to know, as she thought she would "spoil it".

Whilst at Rich's apartment, Lindsay, who had the notion of seducing Rich, sat on the sofa, when she discovered Cindy's hair clip, a "rhinestone barrette", down the sofa.

She made her excuses and left.
5. Stacey Glenn, who was accused of the murder of her father and attempted murder of her mother, was herself murdered in prison during the course of her second trial.

Answer: True

In the first trial, Yuki Castellano presented video evidence from the murder scene to the court, during which Stacey's mother, Rose, who had survived the violent attack by her daughter, agreed that Stacey was responsible. However, during the course of the trial she stated she didn't remember saying that and that Stacey "would never attack her father or herself".

The jury were unable to reach a decision and a second trial commenced. At the end of the second trial, whilst the jury were considering their verdicts, the judge informed Yuki and Stacey's lawyer, Phil Hoffman, that Stacey had been murdered during the course of a fight over her relationship with a female in jail. Stacey's head had been separated from her spinal cord, which the judge described as an "internal decapitation".
6. After being knocked down in a road accident, Yuki Castellano had a relationship with the doctor who treated her. What was his name?

Answer: John Chesney

At the conclusion of the first trial of Stacey Glenn, Yuki left court and in an effort to avoid Candy Stimpson, a newspaper reporter, walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle. She was treated at San Francisco Municipal by Dr John Chesney with whom she had a relationship.

It transpired, however, that John Chesney had been born with "ambiguous genitalia" and was in fact a female, until he was 26 years old. Yuki was unable to come to terms with this revelation.
7. What was the occupation of 'Pet Girl's' victim, Sara Needleman?

Answer: Clothing designer

When 'Pet Girl' was questioned about the death of Sara Needleman, she stated that she walked her dogs about once a week and helped her out when needed. She readily admitted that she worked "for a lot of people in that crowd", and had keys to their houses.
8. What was the real name of 'Pet Girl'?

Answer: Norma Johnson

Norma Johnson's mother was housekeeper to the wealthy Christopher Ross and his family. He had an affair with her and was Norma's father. Christopher Ross died by being bitten by a snake. Following his death Norma's mother was sacked. Norma Johnson admitted to the killings and stated that her father had been responsible for the murders in 1982, when the victims were killed by snake bites.

He told her he did them because he "hated those phonies who sucked up to him because he was rich".
9. It transpired that 'Bagman Jesus' was in fact called Rodney Booker. How was his identity established?

Answer: Cindy was given an ID tag with his name on

As a result of the reward being posted in the paper, Cindy was visited by a vagrant called Flora who told her that although she didn't know who had killed 'Bagman Jesus', she did know who he was. Flora gave Cindy the ID tag, which was stamped "RODNEY BOOKER, PEACE CORPS". Rodney Booker was in fact a drug dealer and he had purchased the school bus which was being used for manufacturing drugs.

Although the gun which killed Rodney Booker was idenfified as belonging to the lawyer Neil Pincus, his killer was not identified as, to protect the killer, numerous people said they were responsible.
10. Lindsay accepts Joe's marriage proposal.

Answer: True

Joe had asked Lyndsay to marry him on two previous occasions. Whilst at a fund-raising dinner, he asked her for a third time and she said yes.
