Adrian does not meet Glenn until he is 13 as he is the result of a short-lived romance between Adrian and Sharon Bott. Adrian undergoes a paternity test as Sharon has a reputation in the area due to the fact that she has many children by many different men.

Adrian's full name is Adrian Albert Mole. He is named for his paternal grandfather.

In the early books, the dog is referred to simply as "the dog". Later, the family get a new dog who goes by the imaginative name of "the new dog". This changes when Adrian's mother gets a dog who she names Ivan after her dead husband, Pandora's father.
