For his 25th birthday, his grandfather, Vëantur, decided to go see the Middle-earth one last time. He took Aldarion along with him, however, King Meneldur did not give Aldarion leave willingly, perhaps forseeing what was yet to come. Although the trip was largely uneventful, Aldarion fell in love with the sea, a love never to be vanquished.

Vëantur was the first of the Númenóreans that managed to sail back to the Middle-earth, and he was also the first with enough nerve to attempt the voyage. Vëantur sailed in 600 of the Second Age in his ship Entulessë, and landed at the Grey Havens. Vëantur was Captain of King Elendil's navy, and his daughter Almarian was the wife to King Melendur.

Vinyalondë, the New Haven, was founded on the mouth of the 'River of Shadow', Gwathir, which was the Gwathló (Greyflood) River. Aldarion needed a haven to repair his ships and did not want to impose on Círdan, keeper of the Elven-havens. In the Third Age, Vinyalondë was known as Lond Daer.

It was customary to name the 'King's Heir' at the age of 100, a custom that Aldarion broke when he named his daughter 'Kings Heir' when Ancalimë was only 19!

Ilmarë was the handmaiden of Varda, Arien was the keeper of the Sun, and Melian was the wife of King Elu Thingol.

Erendis had the diamond set in a silver fillet and Aldarion bound it to her forehead. She was thereafter known as Tar-Elestirnë, 'lady of the Star-Brow'.

The Númerramar was Veantur's ship, that was given as a gift to Aldarion. Pallaran and Hirilondë were ships that Aldarion built to travel to the Middle Earth, and Eämbar was the ship on which Aldarion chose to live, and was the guild-house for the Venturers.

A sapling from the line of Nimloth the fair was given to Aldarion and the tree was ever tended at Armenelos. Aldarion named the tree Ancalimë, in honor of his daughter. Tar-Palantír later proclaimed that when the tree would die out, so would the line of Kings.

Erendis retreated to her white house in the hills of Númenor, where she could be at ease among the bleating of the sheep, and more importantly, away from the waves of the sea.

Gil-Galad, the Elven-King, begged aid concerning the new evil that was filling the former evil of Melkor. He called on the ancient friendship of the Eldar and Edain, and praised the works of Aldarion in the Middle Earth.

Meneldur said that he would not send aid himself, but instead relenquished the throne to Aldarion, whose greater knowledge of the East and friendship with Gil-Galad would help him decide on the proper course of action.

Meneldur was offered the regency but refused. Hallatan was either appointed by the council or by Aldarion himself. Aldarion was the first ruler to actually leave Númenor for an extended period of time. In his future voyages, Ancalimë would fill in as regent.

Aldarion and Gil-Galad remained allied, but not until the days of Tar-Minastir did aid come to Gil-Galad. Aldarion visited the Middle Earth and rebuilt Vinyalondë, but he never sent a force against Sauron. Probably he foresaw that "the time was not yet ripe for Númenor to show its power", although Sauron's hatred for Númenor was already alive.

Aldarion and Erendis never met again. In the end, Erendis' mood softened and she went down to the docks at Rómenna hoping to meet Aldarion, but they never did. It is said she met her end in the waters of Rómenna.

Up to that point, if there was no male heir, then the scepter would go to the closest male relative of male descent. Since Aldarion never had any more children with Erendis, he chose to make Ancalimë the first Ruling Queen.
