Tanya, Eleazar, Carmen, Kate and Irina are the five members of the Denali Coven(a coven is a family of vampires). They are the Cullens' closest friends in the vampire world.

The Denali vampires are the only "vegetarian" vampires (they don't feed on human blood) the Cullens know. Carlisle has lived for so long, he knows many vampires, including some of the Volturi. Edward goes to Alaska to visit the Denalis in the start of "Twilight" because he needs to get away from Bella's irresistible scent.

The story in Forks was that Emily had been mauled by a bear, but really Sam had attacked her. He had phased into a wolf while in a rage, and had regretted it ever since. The first time we meet Emily, she says to Bella, "So you're the vampire girl?" and Bella replies, "Yes, are you the wolf girl?".

Maria, Nettie and Lucy were going around creating new vampires to create an army of newborns. This was to help them expand their territory and gain more hunting ground. We don't find out much about this trio in the books- the only time you hear about them is in "Eclipse" where Jasper is telling Bella his life story.

James and Victoria and both part of the coven of American Nomads. James got killed off in the first book, "Twilight", and Edward killed Victoria in "Eclipse". James is a lethal tracker with unparalleled senses, and Victoria has a gift for escaping out of the hands of her enemies.
