Someone had put the clothes back in the washing machine and added the marker, along with the many other things that they had already done to make it look like Reece was crazy. That way nobody would believe her about the murder.

The whole scene was really quite funny to read.

When Linda-gail confronted Lo with the lie, he asked her to trust him until Saturday night, at which time they'd have a special date. On that date, he took her to a cabin, set up a romantic candlelit dinner, and gave her the ring. He told her that he'd wanted to surprise her, which is why he'd lied to her.
