Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Reece Gilmore believed in following signs. What was the sign that caused her to stop in the town of Angel's Fist?

Answer: Her car was overheating.

Other signs that Reece had thought were important in the past were certain road signs, sunlight shining in certain ways, and weather vanes.
2. What traumatic event in Reece's past was the cause of her nomadic lifestyle?

Answer: There was a massacre in the restaurant where she had been working.

Although she had been shot twice and left for dead, Reece was the only survivor.
Her friends, co-workers and regular customers had been setting up a going-away party for Reece. She had been lingering in the kitchen to give them time to set the party up, when she heard gunshots and screams. One of the gunmen came into the kitchen and shot Reece.
3. What did Reece see across the lake that upset her so much?

Answer: a man strangling a woman

At first it seemed like the man and woman were having an argument. The woman seemed to be yelling at the man, and she slapped him a couple of times. Then the man appeared to either punch the woman or push her down. She got up and went after the man again, but before she could connect, he threw her down again. He then slammed her head on the ground, after which he strangled her.
4. Who was one of the only people to believe Reece?

Answer: all of these

Linda-gail also believed Reece about what she saw happen across the lake. Most of the other people in town thought that the traumatic events in Reece's path caused her to dream or imagine what she saw.
5. Why did Brody get upset when Reece was going to make soup?

Answer: He felt like he was being squeezed into a permanent relationship.

Reece was going to make Italian Wedding soup, which was the first thing that bothered him. She also offered to throw his laundry in with hers. The word "wedding" in the name of the soup, and the intimacy and permanency implied by their laundry being done together, along with her making his bed, caused him to feel pressured.
6. What convinced Reece that she was right about having put her clothes in the dryer?

Answer: The change in her pocket was almost all gone.

Everyone thought that Reece had left her own red marker in with her clothes, which ruined them. They also thought that Reece had simply left the clothes in the washing machine without coming back to put them in the dryer. Reece showed Brenda that most of the change that Brenda had given her for the machines was gone, and said that proved that Reece had put them in the dryer. Someone had put the clothes back in the washing machine and added the marker, along with the many other things that they had already done to make it look like Reece was crazy. That way nobody would believe her about the murder.
7. What happened in Reece's apartment that also caused problems in the diner?

Answer: The water was left running in her bathroom.

Someone had again gotten into Reece's apartment. This time, they left the water running in the bathroom and shut the bathroom door. The water flooded the bathroom, and it also soaked through the floor and down into the diner. As a result, part of the ceiling in the diner was ruined.
8. What caused the bar fight?

Answer: all of these

Linda-gail danced with another man to make Lo jealous. Lo got up from his table when the other man put his hands on Linda-gail's behind. The men shoved each other, and each man's friends surrounded them. Reece saw a man in an orange hunter's cap, like the one that the murderer had worn.

She got up very quickly and knocked over her beer, which sounded like a gunshot when the glass hit the floor. She stumbled into one of Lo's friends, which sent him bumping into one of the other guy's friends. That started a huge bar fight.

The whole scene was really quite funny to read.
9. Why did Lo lie to Linda-gail about where he was the night that a man came into Brody's kitchen, trying to scare Reece?

Answer: He was buying an engagement ring, and he didn't want Linda-gail to know.

When Linda-gail confronted Lo with the lie, he asked her to trust him until Saturday night, at which time they'd have a special date. On that date, he took her to a cabin, set up a romantic candlelit dinner, and gave her the ring. He told her that he'd wanted to surprise her, which is why he'd lied to her.
10. Who was the murderer?

Answer: the sheriff

Rick, the sheriff, who was happily married and had three children, had been seeing a stripper. After he tried to break off their relationship, she caused a big scene, and he killed her.
