quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To build our Inuksuk we will require a base on which it will stand. This must be strong enough to withstand the weight that will be placed on top of it. So, what is defined as "A literary work containing extensive information on all branches or one particular branch of knowledge usually arranged alphabetically?"

Answer: Encyclopaedia

An encyclopaedia is a strong enough base for our purpose. A dictionary is a book dealing with the individual words of a language, a lexicon is defined as "a dictionary, especially of ancient Greek, Hebrew, Syriac or Arabic" and an anthology is a literary collection of poems or other pieces of writing.
2. Having established the base of our Inuksuk , we will now proceed to create the two legs on which it will stand. Again we will need something very strong. For the left leg our selection is "The Pillars of the Earth". Who is the English author of this literary masterpiece?

Answer: Ken Follett

Ken Follett's "The Pillars of the Earth" is an account of the building of the, fictitious, cathedral in Kingsbridge, set against a historical background of England during the twelfth century. It is, to my mind, an amazing piece of literature that gives the reader, amongst other things, the insides in the construction of a cathedral.

The continuation of the story, "World without End", details the adventures of the descendants of the characters that appear in the "Pillars". Ken (Kenneth) Royce Gandley is English, Ken Kesey and Ken Blanchard are American authors.
3. As the left leg of the Inuksuk stands proudly we must complement it by adding the right leg. For this one the selection is a piece of alternate history that has Alexander the Great trying to conquer the world beyond "The Pillars of Hercules". What is the name of the English author of the book?

Answer: David Constantine

David Constantine is the pseudonym of writer David J Williams. In "The Pillars of Hercules", Alexander the Great having conquered the East turns his attention to the West. In Constantine's version of the world, the West is ruled by the powerful Athenian Empire and King Philip, who is still alive, is dismayed by his son's plans and tries to stop him by using a team of individuals. David Livingston was a Scottish medical missionary, David Beckham and David Seaman were English football players.
4. Both legs of the Inuksuk are in place. We will now proceed to build the body. The body consists of three sections that are stacked on top of each other. Since we would like to have a solid structure we will use a bit of magic for the first section. What sort of stone did J. K. Rowling select for the first "Harry Potter" book released in the UK?

Answer: Philosopher's

The first book was called "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". The book was released in 1997 and as they say the rest is history. The "Harry Potter" series of books is the highest selling book series ever and all the books have been turned into very successful films. The meanings of the other three words can be found in any dictionary!
5. Since we have a magical stone in place we should give our Inuksuk a sacred stone. What Australian author wrote the book "The Six Sacred Stones", which was released in 2007?

Answer: Matthew Reilly

"The Six Sacred Stones", the second Matthew Reilly book featuring Jack West Jr., is the follow-up to "Seven Ancient Wonders" and its sequel is "The Five Greatest Warriors". All the books in the series are fast action, video game-like adventures. Matt Granfield is an Australian author whose first book "HipsterMattic" was released in 2011, Matthew Broderick and Matthew McConaughey are American actors.
6. For the last part our Inuksuk's body, we will use a stone created by Wilkie Collins in the 19th century. What is the name of the book that is considered as the first detective novel in the English language?

Answer: Moonstone

"Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins was first published in 1868 and describes the events surrounding the theft of the "Moonstone", a large yellow diamond sacred to the Hindus, from Lady Verinder's house. Sunstone is a feldspar, sandstone is a type of rock and a rolling stone gathers no moss! (Try telling that to Mick Jagger).
7. Having completed the body of our Inuksuk we should now give him arms. We will start with the left arm. What would be more appropriate than to place "The Left Hand of Darkness" here.
