Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What political office did Skink once hold?

Answer: Governor of Florida

Though rumors abound that Skink is based on a real person, Hiaasen denies this, saying he wishes there had been some one like Skink holding office.
2. What did Mick Stranahan use to stab his would-be assassin?

Answer: Stuffed marlin

Hiaasen always has someone being killed in an odd and grim fashion. From his first book, 'Tourist Season', this was just a hint of things to come.
3. The next section is devoted to which books certain characters appeared in. In which book did we meet Erin, Shad and Dilbeck?

Answer: Strip Tease

The less said about the movie made from this book, the better.
4. What novel introduced us to Edie, Augustine, and Mr. and Mrs. Lamb?

Answer: Stormy Weather

While I've loved all of Hiiasen's works, this is probably my favorite.
5. What was the name of the book in which we encountered JoLayne, Tom, Bode and Chub?

Answer: Lucky You

A bad guy with something weird and smelly stuck to his hand - a Hiaasen specialty!
6. Name the book where we met Twilly, Boodle, and Desi?

Answer: Sick Puppy

The long-awaited return of Skink!
7. What book featured Tagger, Emma, Juan, and Cleo?

Answer: Basket Case

I'm lucky enough to have an autographed copy of this gem!
8. Some general character questions. Who is Skink's closest human companion?

Answer: Jim Tile

Skink and Tile are probably among Hiaasen's most beloved characters - we could all use a friend like this!
9. Besides Skink, Jim Tile and Tile's girl friend, who is the only other recurring character in Hiaasen's novels?

Answer: Det. Al Garcia

I may be in the minority on this, but I think Armand Assante made a great Al Garcia!
10. When not writing novels, Hiaasen is a columnist with which respected newspaper?

Answer: The Miami Herald

The Miami Herald features columnists Leonard Pitts, Jr., Hiaasen and his good friend Dave Barry - what a great paper!
