Rue Street is where Mimi resided, Nonesuch is a street where a battle took place, and Rayment's Hill is where the Seerkind hid from the Scourge. Chariot Street is where Cal lived with his parents, even after they both perished. It is mentioned several times throughout the book. Lilia died here, as well. After the Scourge is awakened, the house is destroyed.

Shadwell is the main villain's real name. He was called the Prophet after he donned new skin and a new identity in order to overthrow the Fugue. He is called Salesman throughout the story, because of his charisma and his ability to sell. Shadwell used the jacket he received from Immacolata to trick people.

Immacolata, the Hag, and the Magdalene are all sisters. Each has some unique quality to them - the Hag's senility, Immacolata's magic, and the Magdalene's ability to make children. These children are called by-blows. All of the sisters died in the novel.

Nimrod, whom Cal and Suzanna first met when he was magically turned into a baby, has gorgeous golden eyes. Even when he is turned back into his normal self (complete with a tail and skin slightly blue), he retains his gold eyes. Nimrod was transfixed by the lies the Prophet told, and was then ashamed to have been tricked. Later he gained his senses and helped fight against Shadwell and Hobart's army.

He befriended both Suzanna and Cal and was there till the end.
