1. What is the first (and last) sentence in the book?

Answer: Screams in the dark.

The first one is to describe Bec's birth, all alone in the middle of the night. The second to describe her death, in the tunnel between the Demonata's realm and the human world.

2. Where is the book set?

Answer: Ireland

It is set in 5th century AD, Ireland, when St. Patrick and Christianity is just setting in. And there are faint traces of the old magic about.

3. What is the name of the boy who is killed in the first attack of the demons (that the book describes anyway)?

Answer: Ninian

He's one of the children that are put on watch near the end of the night. They don't expect demon attacks then but the demons are getting smarter and they come. He is killed as he is yelling to warn the clan of the attack.

4. What are Bran's favourite words?

Answer: Run fast

Bran, or Run Fast as Bec calls him before she knows his name, is a simple boy. Sent by Drust, the Druid, to get Bec and her friends, he ends up being the only one to survive the attack of the demons.

5. What coaxes Orna to her death?

Answer: The bodies of her dead children

The demons use dead bodies to make soldiers. Orna's children call for her and, because she misses them so, she believes that they really are back to life and goes to cuddle them. They then rip her to pieces.

Bec is taught many spells by Drust. She learns quickly, too quickly. Drust thinks it is suspicious and looked inside her mind and soul. He sees Lord Loss' magic. Bad news.

Answer: Tir na n'Og

Mysical beings, giants, leprechauns, fairies, banshees, druids, and priestesses are leaving for this legendary island to escape the fast approaching demons.

Everyone's surprised when the vicious demon, part-crocodile, part-human, part-dog, rolls over to have its belly scratched by the small boy. Lord Loss is furious. Bran is obviously blessed by the gods.

9. Who tells Bec about the sacrifice?

Answer: The Old Creatures

Drust takes Bec below sea-level to see the caves of the Old Creatures. She asks a question and all questions are answered in the caves because of the magic so she gets the answer even though she doesn't really want it.

10. Who is the traitor?

Answer: Connla

Connla makes a deal with Lord Loss to have his life spared. He had to put blood on his forehead when he goes in the tunnel with the others and no demon will touch him. But Bec foils his plans when she pushes him under a waterfall and the blood gets washed off. Mwa ha ha ha ha!
