Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Jonesy and Beaver first spot the animals travelling through the backyard, which type of animal gets in their kitchen?

Answer: Deer

Various animals were moving through the woods as a group to get away from the strange lights in the sky. Later, Jonesy and Beaver found a deer that had gotten into their kitchen.
2. Who did Kurtz shoot for using "inappropriate epithets" when referring to the alien beings?

Answer: Melrose

Because Kurtz had overheard Melrose use an inappropriate racial comment when attacking the aliens and their ship, he shot Melrose in the foot. Kurtz then proceeded to discipline Melrose in hopes that he would "spread the word".
3. Pete's special talent was being able to locate missing objects using the form of telepathy he and his friends shared.

Answer: True

Pete used this ability to help a woman find her missing car keys in the beginning of the book. He also used it to help find Josie Rinkenhauer when the boys were in high school. All of the boys were telepathic to some extent after becoming friends with Duddits.
4. What was Mr. Gray's favorite Earth food?

Answer: Bacon

Mr. Gray absolutely loved bacon, especially raw! He ate so many "bacon sandwiches" that he eventually got really sick.
5. What was Beaver's occupation?

Answer: Carpenter

Early in the book Jonesy mentions, about Beaver, that, "With the shoulder-length hair and the thick glasses, he looked like either a math genius or a serial killer. In fact, he was a carpenter." Talk about looks being deceiving!
6. Which two people were in the car with Duddits when they were simultaneously chasing Mr. Gray/Jonesy and being pursued by Kurtz?

Answer: Henry and Underhill

Henry and Underhill picked up Duddits to go catch Mr. Gray, even though his mother didn't want him to go. Duddits had cancer and he did die during the journey, but he was successful in tracking down Mr. Gray. He also touched the lives of those who had loved him.
7. Was Richie Grenadeau hit by a car?

Answer: No

Richie Grenadeau was killed in a car crash. Somehow Duddits and the boys made it happen in a dream. Richie was the bully who was picking on Duddits and tried to make him eat dog feces. Jonesy, Henry, Beaver, and Pete stood up to Richie and saved Duddits, and thus was the start of their friendship.
8. After Jonesy recovered from his accident, what part of his body still gave him pain?

Answer: Hip

Jonesy was severely injured after being hit by a car. During the story he recalls both the accident and the hospital several times. He hurt his hip again during his "adventure" and had to get the whole thing replaced. Stephen King wrote this book after his own accident, and a lot of his physical pain comes out in this story.
9. As adults, each of the main characters had problems with their personal lives. What was Henry's personal problem?

Answer: He was depressed and wanted to commit suicide

Henry, a psychiatrist, was severely depressed and spent much of his time thinking of ways to kill himself. He probably could have used a psychiatrist himself. Jonesy almost got a divorce, Beaver had relationship troubles, and Pete drank too much.
10. And finally: What did Duddits see?

Answer: The line

"Duddits sees the line" was a way of saying that Duddits could see and know things that others could not. After becoming friends with Duddits, Henry, Jonesy, Pete, and Beaver could see "the line" as well.
