Firestarter - The Book Trivia Quiz

I noticed that no-one has done a quiz on one of my favourite Stephen King books, so I thought I'd do one. This book was released in 1980, and was adapted into a movie in 1984 starring Drew Barrymore and David Keith.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Charlie's father's name?

Answer: Andy McGee

Played by David Keith who also starred in "Take This Job and Shove It", 1981, based on the song of the same name by Johnny Paycheck, amongst many others. A very multi-skilled actor who hasn't got the recognition he deserves, in my opinion.
2. When Charlie and her father catch a taxi to Albany, her father 'pushes' the driver into thinking a $1 bill is another amount. How much?

Answer: $500

Andy believes that Lady Luck has sent him the taxi driver, who he thinks of as a 'pushover'. "He was white (orientals were the toughest, for some reason); he was quite young (old people were nearly impossible) and of medium intelligence (bright people were the easiest pushes, stupid ones harder, and with the mentally retarded it was impossible)."
3. What part of the soldier's body does Charlie set on fire at the airport?

Answer: His Feet

The soldier is thinking bad things about a girl he got pregnant, Sally Bradford.
4. What was the name of the drug that was given to Charlie's parents which gave the family their unusual abilities?

Answer: Lot 6

Andy feels guilty that Charlie is out so late, on the run, and feeling guilty herself because of the power she inherited from her parents. "How do you explain to a seven-year-old girl that Daddy and Mommy had once needed two hundred dollars and the people they had talked to had said it was alright, but they had lied?"
5. What is the name of the couple whose farm Charlie and her father stayed at?

Answer: Irv and Norma Manders

When Charlie escapes from The Shop, she returns to the Manders' farm and stays for a while, but leaves when she hears them talking about how dangerous it is to have her there. She goes to New York, to the "Rolling Stone" offices to tell her story. "'Just like show-and-tell in school, huh?' the receptionist asked. Charlie smiled.

It was the smile that had so dazzled the librarian. 'Yes,' she said. 'I've been waiting for a long time.'" These are the last lines in the book.
6. What does Charlie tell Mr. Manders her name is when she and her father first get into his pick-up?

Answer: Roberta

Irv chooses to shorten it to Bobbi. She tells Irv that she and her father are going to see her mother who has just given birth to a baby boy, named Andy.
7. What is the name of the man in charge of 'The Shop'?

Answer: Cap Hollister

Played by Martin Sheen in the movie.
8. A big storm made the power go out at 'The Shop'. John Rainbird used this opportunity to gain Charlie's trust. How did he do this?

Answer: He acted scared because it reminded him of the hole the 'Cong' put him in

He told her a story about being captured by the 'Cong', being put in a hole, and made to eat rotting rice and live spiders.
9. What is the name of the horse Charlie rides as reward for lighting fires?

Answer: Necromancer

'The Shop' keeps giving her little treats to keep her cooperative, when all she wants is to see her father.
10. Last, but not least, what offices does Charlie go to at the end to tell her story?

Answer: Rolling Stone

In the movie, she goes to the "New York Times", but in the book, she goes to "Rolling Stone". She asked a librarian where she could go that was honest, nationwide and had no ties to the government. Hope you enjoyed this quiz!
