Masema, or The Prophet of the Lord Dragon as he calls himself, is Rand's most fanatical follower. After he and the other Shienarans traveled to Ghealdan he began preaching that the Dragon has been Reborn and tells of all his glories. He soon gains many followers who take over large parts of Ghealdan and Amadicia for him.

He and his followers kill all those who don't support Rand or are slow to show their support. To him, Rand is the only one allowed to touch the One Power because Rand is no mere mortal.

When Perrin is sent to stop him it quickly becomes apparent that he is dangerous and insane.

Lanfear is very power-hungry. This is further evidenced later when Moiraine says that if she didn't sacrifice herself, Lanfear would either kill Rand or turn him to the Shadow.

The crime rate goes up after she sends the Aiel and the Saldaeans out of Caemlyn. Elayne only knows of two Houses that will definitely support her and of many others that won't because she has little power yet. She is also forced to hire mercenaries and Hunters for the army and promotes Birgitte to Captain-General of the Queen's Guard.

Sevanna asked Caddar, Sammael in disguise, to get her more wealth so he opened Gateways to other parts of the continent under the pretense that they would all be going to the same place. The scattered Shaido continued to loot and plunder to gain Sevanna more wealth when they were reunited. Sammael did this because the Aeil clans are indistinguishable to wetlanders and if the Aeil start destroying their land, the destruction would be blamed on Rand.
