Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Angua von Überwald
Answer: Werewolf
Captain Delphine Angua von Überwald is a werewolf, originally from Überwald, now resident in Ankh-Morpork. She is first mentioned in the book "Men at Arms" and has made appearances in thirteen of the Discworld novels. She is the girlfriend of Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson and her sense of smell and common sense make her a valuable member of the Watch.
2. Reginald Shoe
Answer: Zombie
Constable Reg Shoe was killed in the Ankh-Morpork Revolution. It took him some time to realise this and since then has been working for "Dead Rights" with his "Fresh Start Club". He joined the watch in the book "Jingo", and has become a handy man with a needle and thread, as he constantly needs to sew body parts back on.
3. Wee Mad Arthur
Answer: Gnome/Nac Mac Feegle
Constable Wee Mad Arthur was raised as a gnome, but discovered later on that he was actually a Nac Mac Feegle. Originally a rat catcher and pest exterminator, he was seconded into the Watch by Sergeant Fred Colon in the book "Feet of Clay". He is six inches tall and has human strength packed into a really tiny body.
He, as with most Feegles, finds that "nutting" (headbutting) most things will sort out the problem. He saves Fred Colon in "Feet of Clay", by nutting Rogers the bull.
4. Detritus
Answer: Troll
Sergeant Detritus first appears in the book "Moving Pictures" as hired muscle (or rather rock). In the book "Men At Arms", Detritus joins the Watch and systematically becomes one of Commander Vimes' most trusted officers. Despite his obvious size and strength, Detritus uses a converted siege crossbow as his personal weapon.
5. Nobby Nobbs
Answer: Probably human
Cecil Wormsborough St. John "Nobby" Nobbs is most definitely, uhm, probably human. No one seems to be sure upon meeting him, so he carries a certificate signed by the Patrician certifying that he is actually human, based on the testimony of his parents and the midwife who delivered him. Corporal Nobbs is usually found partnered with Sergeant Fred Colon and has, surprisingly, been the object of affection of an exotic dancer and a goblin woman.
6. Cheery Littlebottom
Answer: Dwarf
Sergeant Cheery Littlebottom joined the Watch in "Feet of Clay" as a forensic alchemist. With Angua's help and encouragement, she is one of the first dwarves to be openly female. Her systematic makeover, which include raised iron heels on her boots and a leather skirt, cause Commander Vimes much confusion.
In the book "Thud!", she gains acceptance from the Dwarf Low King for her bold move.
7. Dorfl
Answer: Golem
Constable Dorfl joined the Watch during the book "Feet of Clay". He was the first freed golem when Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson bought him from his owner and substituted the chem in his head (holy words which gave him life) with the receipt for his purchase. Due to major damage sustained in the book from fighting the golem king, Commander Vimes has Captain Carrot repair him and give him a tongue.
8. Sally von Humpeding
Answer: Vampire
Lance-Constable Salacia "Sally" von Humpeding joined the watch in the book "Thud!". She only appears in one other book, "Raising Steam". She proves to have an integral role in the book, despite being a spy for the Dwarf Low King, dealing with werewolf/vampire hatred from and towards Angua and having to fight Commander Sam Vimes's natural suspicion towards vampires.
9. Downspout
Answer: Gargoyle
Constable Downspout is a gargoyle and a surveillance expert first mentioned in "Feet of Clay". As a gargoyle, he is described by Commander Vimes as the "world champion at not moving". He is paid in pigeons. Which he eats.
10. The Librarian
Answer: Orangutan
The Librarian of the Unseen University is an orangutan. Due to a magical accident, he was transformed from human and has resisted every attempt to change him back. He is made a special constable during the book "Guards! Guards!" and has continued to assisted the Watch in numerous ways. Besides, he refuses to give the badge back.
