Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Our heroine's given name is Danielle. What is her surname?

Answer: Boatman

The Marlow family were the original owners of the home. Lily Miller is Danielle's best friend, who initially lives with her and later is constantly in and out of Marlow House, while Joanne Johnson is the housekeeper.
2. In the course of "Haunting Danielle" various male characters become, or would like to become, romantically involved with our heroine. When we meet her at the beginning of the series, what is Danielle's marital status?

Answer: Widowed

Early in "The Ghost of Marlow House" we learn that Danielle's husband, Lucas, was killed in a car crash some six months before. She welcomes the opportunity to come to Marlow House, since it offers her a new beginning.
3. The title of the series, "Haunting Danielle", indicates that our heroine may have a problem with ghosts while the title of the first book, "The Ghost of Marlow House", indicates where her main ghostly antagonist can be found. When Danielle takes possession of Marlow House, whose spirit does she find in residence?

Answer: Walt Marlow's

The "owner" of the house, handsome and dashing Walt Marlow, is perplexed and resentful when two strange young women (a brunette apparently called Dani and a redhead named Lily) barge into his home, acting as though they had a perfect right to be there. Still, his righteous anger doesn't prevent him from noticing that despite her unflattering, mannish clothing, the brunette is very pretty. Against his better judgement, he's intrigued.
4. Does the ghost who resides at Marlow House have episodes of behaving like a poltergeist-type spirit?

Answer: Yes

Though Walt has a temper and he does not hesitate to use his developing ghostly powers to protect his home and the young women who now live in it, he is by nature intelligent, rational, affable and kind.
5. The principle setting for "Haunting Danielle" is Marlow House. Where is the house located?

Answer: Frederickport, Oregon USA

The series is set in the fictional beach community of Frederickport, OR, which, according to the story, was founded by shipping magnate Frederick Marlow in 1871.

Founded in 1811 and named for John Jacob Astor, Astoria, on the Columbia River, is the oldest city in Oregon. With a population of less than ten thousand, it is considerably smaller than Portland, which has nearly six hundred and forty-eight thousand residents. It is also considerably closer to Frederickport, making it a frequent destination for Danielle and her friends.

Lake Havasu City, in western Arizona, is a tourist destination with hiking, water sports and a state park, among other attractions. The location was initially an Army Air Force camp, imaginatively called Site Six. Beginning in 1958, the surrounding land was bought and developed by a businessman named Robert P. McCulloch, and Lake Havasu City was established in September, 1963. The new community achieved international notoriety when Old London Bridge was disassembled and rebuilt there in 1967. The city makes a guest appearance in "The Ghost Who Stayed Home", Book Eleven in the "Haunting Danielle" series. It is also the home of series author Bobbi Holmes.

Boston, a city rich in historical and cultural tradition, is one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been settled in 1630. It is the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. With regard to "Haunting Danielle", Boston is only mentioned in passing once, in Book Two, "The Ghost Who Loved Diamonds".
6. On moving into Marlow House, Danielle and Lily find that they have a handsome neighbor directly across the street. What is his name?

Answer: Ian Bartley

Ian Bartley, aka John Alter, is a successful nonfiction author. Though he initially wants to meet Danielle and Lily for reasons connected with his research for his current project, he quickly becomes smitten with Lily and develops a friendship with Danielle, relationships that deepen throughout the series.

Adam Nichols is a slightly sleazy but fundamentally goodhearted realtor and rental property manager. Though their relationship is initially stormy, Danielle and Lily eventually come to regard him as a good friend.

Richard Winston appears in Book Six, "The Ghost Who Came for Christmas". Though he goes to Marlow House in an attempt to recruit Danielle for Earth Bound Spirits, a local cult that is in need of money, thanks to a little Christmas magic he ends up finding something he had lost long ago.

Logan "Mitch" Mitchum is an unscrupulous private investigator who appears in Book Seven, "The Ghost of Valentine Past".
7. Who is the first member of the town's police force Danielle meets?

Answer: Sargent Morelli

Danielle and Lily haven't been in Frederickport a week before they take an excursion to Astoria. While they are gone, the landscaper realizes the house has been burgled. He calls his brother-in-law, Sgt. Joe Morelli, unwittingly setting in motion a complicated and often uncomfortable relationship between Danielle and Joe.
8. At the beginning of the series, Danielle has only one living relative. Who is it?

Answer: Her cousin Cheryl

Danielle and Cheryl are only one month apart in age and were raised practically as sisters - sisters who didn't get along.

It is Aunt Brianna's legacy that brings Danielle to Marlow House. The twisted threads of how she came to own the house in the first place and why she left it to Danielle run through the series, underpinning several of the mysteries.

Clint Marlow is a distant cousin of Walt's, who has inherited his looks, though not his temperament.

Laura is Lily's sister.
9. The first friend Danielle makes in her new town is Marie Hemming Nichols, a kind and chatty ninety-year-old widow, who loves gardening, to her grandson Adam's dismay. What relation, if any, does Marie bear to the person whose ghost haunts Marlow House?

Answer: Her father was the person's dear friend.

Marie's father, George Hemming, was Walt Marlow's best friend. As such, she knows a great deal about Walt's life and death, knowledge she is happy to share. Danielle's parents having died when she was in college and the only grandparent who lived to see her, a grandmother, having died when she was small, she has no family apart from Cheryl. So the talkative and kindly Marie soon becomes a surrogate grandmother and dear friend.
10. Pier Cafe, Lucy's Diner, Beach Taco and Pearl Cove are all popular local eateries. At which one can Carla, the cheerful, multicolor-haired waitress who is always ready to stop and gossip, usually be found?

Answer: Pier Cafe

Though at one point Carla tries a second job as hostess at the swanky Pearl Cove restaurant, her permanent job is at Pier Cafe. She is the root of the grapevine, knowing everything that goes on in Frederickport seemingly before anyone else, even the newspaper.
