Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve" is a long-running humorous fantasy series with many volumes. Which book is the first one in the series?

Answer: "Another Fine Myth"

These are the first four books of the series. They appeared in the following order: "Another Fine Myth" (1978), "Myth Conceptions" (1980), "Myth Directions" (1982), "Hit or Myth" (1983). But, wait! Doesn't that first title sound more like a sequel?

In the introduction to "M.Y.T.H. Inc., Link", Asprin described how he developed the concepts for the series. In an earlier stage, he planned to call the first novel "Another Fine Mess". Shortly thereafter, he decided using the word "Myth" in the titles would be a way to tie the books together. He wanted to call the first book "Myth Conceptions", but pre-release materials had already gone out. The publishers could explain away "Another Fine Mess" vs. "Another Fine Myth" as a typo.
2. Two of the recurring characters are Chumley and Tananda, a brother and sister team. Which dimension is their home dimension?

Answer: Trollia. Chumley is a Troll and Tananda is a Trollop.

Chumley is a large being of monstrous appearance who is going under the pseudonym of "Crunch" the first time that Skeeve meets him. Tananda is a curvaceous female with green hair. In the first few books, she is called "Tanda" as often as not.

An example of an Imp is Brockhurst, an assassin character from the first two books. They are seen as imitators of Deveels. (Aahz: "I'll say one thing for imps. They may be inferior to Deveels as merchants, but they are snappy dressers.")

An example of a Deveel is Frumple, a merchant who appears in the first novel. He was banned from Deva for actually lying in business deals, rather than just being a sharp trader.

An example of a Djin is Kalvin, who works with Skeeve in "Myth-nomers and Im-Pervections". He tries to offer Skeeve advice from time to time and does provide some timely magical help.
3. In the first book, Aahz and Skeeve are trying to stop an evil wizard from taking over the dimensions. Asprin describes him this way: "He was tall, but his stoutness kept his height from being imposing. He had long white hair and a longer white beard which nearly covered his chest with its fullness. His bright eyes were set in a face that seemed to be permanently smiling, and his nose and cheeks were flushed, though whether from drink or laughter I couldn't tell." Who is this wizard?

Answer: Isstvan

Isstvan is quite crazy and after his defeat is removed to the "Isle of Coney". There seems to be more than one way to pronounce his name. When Skeeve says his name, Aahz says he is pronouncing it incorrectly, though Skeeve cannot hear any difference between how he pronounces the name and how Aahz does.

Garkin was Skeeve's first instructor in magic. He has a "salt and pepper" beard. He was assassinated in the first chapter of the book. Quigley is a demon hunter who later tries to become a wizard. Big Julie is the leader of an army that appears in a later book.
4. In the second book, Skeeve manages to be hired as the Court Magician for the Kingdom of Possiltum. Who is not part of the court of Possiltum?

Answer: Vilhelm the Dispatcher

Vilhelm will appear in a later book. He lives in the dimension of Limbo. Rodrick the Fifth is the King of Possiltum. He is described as not much older than Skeeve. (Aahz, when he hears Rodrick's name, makes a joke: "I've never been known to refuse a fifth.") J. R. Grimble is the Chancellor of the kingdom and handles money matters. Hugh Badaxe is the General of the Army and is usually seen carrying a large axe.
5. In the third book, Skeeve and Aahz travel to the dimension of Jahk where they meet Maasha, the Court Magician of Veygus. She will become an important supporting character in upcoming books. Which statement about her is false?

Answer: Maasha later takes Skeeve on as her apprentice. He is looking for a new teacher after Aahz dies.

Maasha, in fact, in the fourth book, goes to Skeeve and asks to become his apprentice. She is impressed by what he can do with magic and wants to learn. When Aahz questions her presence, Skeeve shuts him down, reminding him that he learned from Aahz that nobody messes with your apprentice.

Almost from the first, we know she uses magical equipment. ("'She's got--no, wait a minute,' I corrected. 'It isn't her, it's her jewelry. It's magical, but she isn't.'") Her magical jewelry is helpful many times during the course of the book.

Maasha is described several times in the series as being "wide of girth" as well as wearing bright colored clothing that often clashed.
6. At the end of the fourth book, Skeeve and Aahz are given a tent-structure to use as a home by the Chamber of Commerce on Deva. What unusual feature of the tent, plays a role in a later adventure?

Answer: The interior of the tent is in a different dimension than the exterior of the tent.

The interior of the tent is a luxurious palace that is inside the dimension of Limbo (inhabited by Werewolves and Vampires). It is much larger than the humble tent exterior would suggest. Aahz, and then Skeeve, have to travel into Limbo to hunt down some petty criminals who have escaped through their tent. To the best of my knowledge, none of the other choices have ever been features of the tent.
7. "M.Y.T.H. Inc., Link" is the seventh book in the series. What does this book feature that is a first for "The Myth-Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve"?

Answer: Other characters narrate the story, in addition to Skeeve.

The book, one of the shortest in the series, is a set of five main stories and a conclusion. They describe some of the assignments of the company. Skeeve provides framing narrative around the stories. The other narrators are Guido (one of Skeeve's bodyguards), Chumley, Maasha, Aahz, and Gleep (Skeeve's dragon).

Virtually none of this story takes place on Klah. It's only really even referenced in the conclusion. Skeeve and Aahz are less featured than they are in some of the earlier stories; Skeeve does make an appearance in every story and Aahz is the main character in one of the stories.
8. In the eleventh book, "Myth-ion Improbable", the story goes sideways as this story occurs between Books Three and Four, chronologically. The majority of this story takes place in the dimension Kowtow. Which description best matches this dimension?

Answer: A Wild West setting

Kowtow resembles the American West of the late 1800s. There are wooden sidewalks, cowboys, and saloons. A common greeting is "Howdy!" And, oh yes, under the full moon, the cows transform into vampires.

Aahz's home dimension, Perv, bears more of a resemblance to Manhattan with its tall buildings and busy traffic. Skeeve's home dimension, Klah, resembles a Medieval society in terms of its general technological development. To the best of my knowledge, none of the dimensions that Asprin describes in the series are specifically Asian-inspired.
9. In many of the later books of the series, Robert Asprin teamed with another author. Who was this author?

Answer: Jody Lynn Nye

Robert Asprin and Jody Lynn Nye collaborated on six "Myth Adventures" books. In the introduction to the short story collection, "Myth-Told Tales", each gives his or her perspective on how they came to be collaborators.

Asprin also collaborated with each of the other authors, but on other books or series. Eric Del Carlo was his collaborator for the "Wartorn" series. Peter J. Heck was his collaborator for the later books in the "Phule's Company" series. Esther M. Friesner collaborated with him on the book "E. Godz".
10. The novel "Myth-Quoted" has the M.Y.T.H. Inc. crew involved in a political campaign. What first occurs with this book? (Note: This is for a full-length novel, not a short story.)

Answer: Robert Asprin was not involved with this book.

Robert Asprin died on May 22, 2008, at his home in New Orleans, LA. The cover of my copy of the book reads "Robert Asprin's Myth-Quoted. Written by Jody Lynn Nye." While the short story collection, "Myth-Told Tales" featured two short stories set in the universe and written solely by Jody Lynn Nye ("M.Y.T.H. Inc. Proceeds" and "Myth-Matched"), Robert Asprin had been the author or co-author of all of the books up to this point.

Hugh and Maasha had been married to each other as the conclusion to "Something M.Y.T.H. Inc."
