Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While trying to save the others from a death sentence, Robyn killed herself while also killing one of the enemy. What was the name of that man?

Answer: Major Harvey

Major Harvey was an Australian who had sided with the invading forces. Apparently he was a teacher. He thought that the Kids didn't really know what they were doing but they were doing a better job than he was. He was killed when Robyn pulled the pin of a grenade she was holding, killing herself and Major Harvey.
2. While the Kids were camping, numerous fighter jets were heard flying over the campsite. They had many theories about where the jets came from. One of the theories was that they had been invaded. What day did the invasion occur?

Answer: Commemoration Day

Commemoration Day was also referred to as Commem Day and commemorated the founding of the town of Wirawee where they all lived. It was a day like the Royal Easter Show where farmers came to show off their cattle and there was prize winning cakes, that sort of stuff. It was held at Wirawee Showground.
3. After Lee was shot, he was hiding out in the newsagency which had been ransacked. Robyn told the rest of the group but they couldn't leave him there. What sort of vehicle was used to rescue Lee?

Answer: Bulldozer

A bulldozer (or front end loader)was used because it gave the most protection to the occupants from flying bullets. The only problem was that it was a lot harder to drive. Ellie drove while Robyn sat beside her for moral support. He had received medical treatment before Robyn left him so he wouldn't bleed to death.

He received this treatment from a Dentist even though he was shot in the leg.
4. There are seven books in the series, all of them very well written. What was the name of the fourth book?

Answer: Darkness, Be My Friend

Books in the series:
1. "Tomorrow When the War Began"
2. "The Dead of the Night"
3. "The Third Day, The Frost"
4. "Darkness, Be My Friend"
5. "Burning for Revenge"
6. "The Night is for Hunting"
7. "The Other Side of Dawn"
In my opinion, number 5 is the best of the lot.
5. One night Corrie was out with Kevin hunting. This was the last night that she would ever be with the group. How did Corrie die?

Answer: She was shot

She was taken to the hospital in the back of a white Mercedes-Benz after being shot by a soldier while looking for ferrets with Kevin. Kevin drove her and subsequently was captured by the enemy. He was put to work in a work party on the farms and escaped the party by pretending he had fallen down a well.
6. Ellie's grandmother was captured just like the rest of the population. Where did Elle's grandmother live before the invasion?

Answer: Stratton

Stratton was bombed very heavily during the war because it was an industrial town. Wirawee was much smaller than Stratton. Winmalee is an actual town in the Blue Mountains, Australia. Risdon was also another town in the books.
7. What was the name of the bay where Homer and Ellie nearly got themselves killed while destroying an enemy ship?

Answer: Cobblers Bay

Not only did the two of them succeed in destroying the ship, they also took out an helicopter, about two other ships and most of the wharf as well. They both nearly died in the meantime from the explosion, drowning and as well were being shot at. This was a major victory for them because Cobblers Bay was where the enemy was landing. Nothing could be brought ashore for quite a while until the wharf was repaired.
8. The group did anything just to stay alive. This included driving cars that were parked on the side of the road that they didn't even know who they belonged to. One night to dispose of a car with bullet holes up the side of it they pushed it into a dam. What sort of car was this?

Answer: Green BMW

A green BMW. This was when Chris joined the group. He was hiding in a tree outside his house in his pyjamas. He climbed a tree to escape the soldiers capturing him when they ransacked the houses looking for people and valuables. His parents were abroad at the time in Belgium.

When he came out of the tree, he scared the rest of the group half to death. They thought he was an enemy soldier.
9. Before the war and before Ellie and Lee got together, Ellie had a boyfriend. They broke-up at a party at Mrs. Alexander's place. What was the name of Ellie's ex-boyfriend?

Answer: Steve

Ellie's ex-boyfriend's name was Steve. They broke up a while before the war. He was really cool about the break up which made Ellie feel really bad.
10. The members of the group all came from different walks of life. Some lived on the farms, others in the town and others lived on the Hill where the rich people lived. One of the characters that lived on the Hill had never heard of 'two minute noodles'. Which character was this?

Answer: Fi

Fi asked Ellie what 'two minute noodles' were when they were camping in their base. The rest of the group thought this was a real laugh because they'd never known anyone who didn't know what 2 minute noodles were. Fi's parents were rich and lived in a huge house in town. They didn't buy 2 minute noodles.
11. We find out that all of the group are scared or frightened of different things. Kevin acted tough and macho throughout most of the story except in the beginning when we find out what he is scared of. What was Kevin scared of?

Answer: Bugs

He was really scared of bugs. He thought they were disgusting creepy crawlies. We find this out in the first book when the group was first entering Hell. They had to climb down a dead tree which was infested with bugs of all kinds. He started screaming and jumping around like a lunatic.
12. The Wirawee bridge was blown by the group to try to stop the enemy getting into Wirawee. When this happened the enemy was forced to take the scenic route into Wirawee. What animal was used to force the enemy soldiers off the bridge?

Answer: Cows

A herd of cows was used to chase the enemy soldiers off the bridge so that the soldiers wouldn't shoot at Fi and Ellie as they were trying to get the Petrol Tanker underneath the bridge to cause the explosion. Homer and Lee were the ones who riled up the cows to get them to stampede.
13. The population of Wirawee was about 5000. That's a lot of people to hold prisoners. Where was the population of Wirawee held when they were captured?

Answer: The Showground

It was easy for the enemy soldiers to capture most of the population because they invaded on Commemoration Day when most of the people were already at the showground. They were easy pray.
14. Where were the invading forces from?

Answer: You never find out

Fi didn't recognise the language and she spoke about 4 different languages. They were listening to the radio when they found the different news reports but she didn't recognise any of the languages. So we never find out.
15. Living on the farms, Ellie's dad needed a 4WD to get around in. There were numerous makes he could have chosen from but there was on particular 4WD that Ellie's dad was very possessive about. What sort of 4WD did Ellie's dad own and the group used to get around in for most of the story?

Answer: Landrover

They used Ellie's dad's Landrover. Affectionately known as the Landie. Before they went camping, Ellie's dad told here she was the only one allowed to drive it. Almost everyone had had a drive before the end of the war. A Toyota was what Chris was driving at the time of his death. He was drunk while driving and he rolled the Ute into a dam and drowned.
