Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following was Royce Westmoreland known as?

Answer: Black Wolf

Royce is known as the Black Wolf, England's most vicious warrior. He becomes the first duke of Claymore because King Henry does not believe Royce's wife should outrank him. The laird of Merrick is the father of Jennifer (Royce's wife). There is no abbot of Belkirk, though there is an abbess.
2. Why does Jordan Townsende, Duke of Hawthorne, consent to marrying Alexandra Lawrence?

Answer: She saved his life and in return he ruined hers

Jordan finally agreed to marry Alex out of a combination of guilt and pity. She saved his life by shooting a man, and when she passed out he took her to a tavern to recover. They were seen together and her reputation was damaged past recall. He refused to subject her to a life of whoring herself, so he married her.

He did not realize he loved her until later, and when he met her she was not the beauty she would later become. Her family lived in near poverty, so there was little or no dowry to be had. Elizabeth Grangerfield was Jordan's mistress a while before he met and married Alex.
3. How did Victoria make up with Jason after realized she was destroying her marriage?

Answer: saying point blank that she'd been trying to seduce him

Victoria actually did all of these things to try to placate her husband. However, Jason still thought she believed a mistress would be "considerate of him" so he did his best to ignore her overtures. It was the following outburst that finally convinced Jason of what his wife wanted, "When I offer to play chess with you, you get angry.

When I try to seduce you, you get nasty...and when I bring you a gift you go off to London to see your mistress!" (Judith McNaught "Once and Always" pg 317)
4. What role did Elizabeth assign Jordan while playing cards at Havenhurst?

Answer: breaking them out of Newgate

Ian's job was to cheat at the tables, Alex's was to run said victim through, Elizabeth's was to shoot the victim before he could object, and Jordan was responsible for getting them all out of jail, or as Elizabeth put it, "Breaking us all out of Newgate" (Judith McNaught "Almost Heaven" pg. 368)
5. Of all the contenders for Whitney Stone's hand in marriage, only one could win it. Who did?

Answer: Clayton Westmoreland

Clayton Westmoreland, Duke of Claymore persevered in his quest for Whitney's hand. In the course of doing so, he also won her heart. Nicki (Nicholas) DuVille was a close friend of Whitney's. He helped launch her debut in France, and fell in love with her along the way. Andre Rosseau was a devoted suitor who ran to do her every bidding at balls and such. Paul Sevarin was Whitney's childhood obsession.

She fancied herself in love with him, and did eventually wring out a proposal. However, once she had it she realized that he wanted her money as much as, or more, than he wanted her.

She came to her senses, and eventually she and Clayton got around to the 'happily ever after' part.
6. Which of these women finally got Stephen Westmoreland to look for, and find, the truth about why Sheridan Bromleigh left him at the altar?

Answer: Charity Thornton

Whitney concocted the plan that brought Stephen and Sheridan back under one roof. Victoria and Alex agreed to help her. However, their plan failed quite miserably. Charity, however, used her very sharp logic to let Stephen know that a main factor in Sheridan's behavior was Nicki DuVille's influence.
7. Nicki DuVille was involved in the lives of many of Judith McNaught's female characters. Which of the following husband's had no reason to dislike him?

Answer: Jordan Townsende

Clayton disliked him because Nicki came very close to marrying Whitney himself. In fact, Ms. McNaught originally intended for Nicki to win Whitney at the end. Stephen disliked Nicki for almost the same reason. Sheridan, his wife, almost got away from him because of Nicki's...over talkative mouth. Jordan Townsende has no reason to dislike the man, for he had nothing to do with his wife.

After all is said and done, they were most definitely not the best of friends.
8. Roddy Carstairs actually helped a girl - once. Who was she?

Answer: Alexandra Townsende

Victoria and Whitney had no need of aid in building their reputations. Roddy had destroyed Alex's, but then he accepted her challenge of rebuilding it, and she was soon "the rage". When she asked for help in the case of her friend Elizabeth Cameron, even Roddy would not aid her, because doing so would have diminished his reputation.
9. Why was Katie Connelly so afraid of committing to marriage with Ramon Galverra?

Answer: Because her last marriage had gone horribly when she denied her gut instinct.

Katie's last marriage went horribly, all because she denied her gut instinct and married David. With Ramon, her gut told her he was hiding something, and no matter how much she tried to convince herself otherwise, she was reminded of her last, abusive husband, Katie's father was adamantly against the marriage at first, and would never have forced her into it. Ramon never flirted with any other women as far as we know. Katie fully believed she could rough a life as a farmer's wife, away from all the conviences she had in the city.
10. Why did Nick Sinclair finally realize that Lauren Danner had not betrayed him?

Answer: Jim Williams found out she'd changed the bids she gave Whitworth

Nick scoffed at Tony's story, and refused to believe a word of it. He'd been betrayed by his mother, so he had no reason to think that Lauren would be any different. When Lauren tried to tell him about the bids, he had her escorted off his property. It was Jim who looked at Lauren's file again and discovered that she had indeed changed the bids.
11. When faced with a life-changing decision near the end of Paradise, what did Meredith Bancroft/Farrell choose?

Answer: She chose her husband

When presented with the ultimatum: either hel us sue/investigate your husband or leave the company, Meredith chose her husband. Matt, of course, was very happy (to say the least) and welcomed her back with open arms. However, when her father discovered that Matt really was innocent of all the things he'd been accused of, Mr. Bancroft publicly acknowledged Matt's marriage to his daughter, and let Meredith assume her rightful place at Bancroft's.
12. What did Parker Reynolds do when he realized Meredith would eventually choose Matt over him?

Answer: Acknowledged his feelings for Meredith's friend Lisa Pontini

Parker and Lisa had one of those love/hate relationships. When he saw that Meredith would choose Matt, he tried to punch him, but that's as far as it went. That night, he and Lisa went to bed together while Meredith went home to nurse her 'shiner' and think about her feelings for Matt.
13. Who/What convinced Zack Benedict that he was terribly wrong about Julie Mathison's "betrayal"?

Answer: A letter and two videos

Paul Richardson went to Zack in order to convince him of Julie's innocence. Zack wasn't buying it though. Paul left an envelope containing two videos and a letter. Meredith watched/read the contents, and forced Zack to do the same. It was the evidence of her love that he saw in those that made him realize what he'd done.
14. When Spence Addison and Corey Foster were young, Spence did something the Foster family never quite forgave him for. What was it?

Answer: He forgot about a dance he was supposed to take Corey to.

When they were young, Corey had a huge crush on Spence. She fancied herself in love with him. Diana and Corey made up Doug Johnson, and told Spence he'd had to cancel on Corey at the last moment. He agreed to take her to the dance, but simply forgot about it. He did date Lisa Murphy and kiss Corey, but niether of those things resulted in the Foster family's anger.
15. When Diana Foster and Cole Harrison were younger (ie: teenage/twenties) they weren't vocal about their feelings towards one another. How did they really feel?

Answer: They both liked each other but neither knew how the other felt

At that time in their lives, both Diana and Cole were drawn to each other. However, since Cole had spurned the overtures of many a girl, Diana believed she had no chance. Cole, on the other hand, felt like an old letcher because he was in college and she was an 'innocent' high school girl.
16. At the end of "Night Whispers" the new maitre d' asks the table for Ms. Maitland. However, all the women at the table have the last name Maitland. Who took the call?

Answer: Mrs. Noah Maitland

Noah was calling Sloan to tell her that he'd gotten home early. She knew ahead of time that that might be the case, so she was ready for it. Neither Miss Courtney Maitland or Mrs. Douglas Maitland were expecting a call, and Miss Ashley Maitland is the three year old daughter of Sloane and Noah and was with the housekeeper, not at the table.
17. Despite Paul Richardson's mistakes, he eventually found the girl of his dreams. Who was she?

Answer: Paris Reynolds

Paris and Paul fell in love with each other while he was investigating her father. Sloan was rather angry at Paul for manipulating her, and never even considered romance with him. Courtney is still a teenager, enough said. Julie Mathison dated him for a while, but once Zack went back to her, there was no chance for Paul.
18. Joe O'Hara first reappears in which of the following books?

Answer: Perfect

Joe O'Hara first appears as Matt Farrell's bodyguard/driver in Paradise. He first REappears in Perfect.
19. Which of the following is the only "spinoff" book Judith McNaught has ever written?

Answer: Until You

Until You is considered a "spinoff" because its hero has been introduced before - in "Whitney, My Love". The other three books feature re-occuring characters, but the main characters are brand new, and have never been written about before.
20. Water's Edge was supposed to be a story of an actress teleported through time. However, it's been split in two. One will be time travel, and the other contemporary. What is the title of the contemporary?

Answer: Someone to Watch Over Me

Water's Edge will be the title of the time travel book. Temptation and The Summerhouse are both books by Jude Deveraux. She's a great writer, go read her books too!
