Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the alias of the murdered murderer Cassetti?

Answer: Ratchett

Poirot found out that Ratchett was in fact Cassetti, when he found an almost completely burned note which had the name of one of his victims on it. Cassetti, (before he left America) would hold a person ransom (in this case the grandchild of a well-known actress). If it seemed that the police were getting on to his trail, he would then kill the hostage and get as much money as possible.
2. What was the name of the child killed by Cassetti?

Answer: Daisy Armstrong

Cassetti changed his name to Ratchett, left America and went travelling, after killing the innocent child Daisy Armstrong, whom he had held for ransom. He was eventually killed aboard the Orient Express, by those who were in some way associated with Daisy's family.
3. Which of Agatha Christie's sleuths featured in this book?

Answer: Hercule Poirot

Hercule Poirot, the Belgian detective, famous for his moustaches and his "little grey cells". The other options were sleuths, except for Raymond West, who was Miss Marple's nephew.
4. What was the first name of Princess Dragomiroff?

Answer: Natalia

Poirot found a woman's handkerchief at the scene of the crime, initialled with "H". Princess Dragomiroff later stated that this handkerchief belonged to her, as she always initialled her handkerchiefs in the Russian characters ("H" being "N" in Russian).
5. In which country did the Orient Express get stuck in a snowdrift?

Answer: Yugoslavia

Cassetti was murdered during the Orient Express's journey through Yugoslavia. This was because usually the police of the country that the train was passing through would be aboard, but in Yugoslavia this was not so.
6. What was the nationality of Dr Constantine?

Answer: Greek

Although Dr Constantine was Greek, the other nationalities were represented on the train.
7. What job description did the undercover agent Hardman use to disguise himself?

Answer: Typewriter ribbon salesman

Mr Cyrus B. Hardman, who was travelling with a false passport, also travelled with a large amount of alcohol. Apparently, by the time he got to Paris, the remnants of the alcohol were going to be in a bottle labelled "hairwash".
8. How was Cassetti killed?

Answer: Stabbed

Cassetti (aka Ratchett) was stabbed twelve times by some of the other occupants of the train.
9. Where was the murder weapon found?

Answer: In a spongebag

The dagger was found in Mrs Hubbard's spongebag, a conductor's uniform button was found on top of her magazine, and someone put a scarlet kimono in Poirot's luggage.
10. Whose passport had a spot of grease on it?

Answer: Countess Andrenyi

Countess Andrenyi's passport had had a grease spot on it in order to disguise the fact that her first name was really Helena, not Elena. This was because a handkerchief (already mentioned) with the initial "H" had been found at the scene of the crime.
