Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the main character's name AND other form?

Answer: Owl

I love her name. She is able to transform into an owl whenever she wants to. Some of her other family members are able to transform into dog or cat form, and a few into hoofed or finned beasts.
2. Mr. Lindstorm teaches what subject?

Answer: Science

Owl is in love with Mr. Lindstorm.
3. Why can't Owl eat human food?

Answer: She can, but it will prevent her from making an easy transformation.

In the book, she says that if she were to eat human food, she would lose the ability to fly, or even to transform into an owl. A few bites isn't too bad, but the more she eats, the more human she becomes.
4. What strange animal turns up one day by Mr. Lindstorm's house, where Owl hunts?

Answer: A barn owl

The barn owl, or the mad barn owl as she calls him, turns up one night. She calls him mad because of the way he flys and hunts. She compared his hunting to a suicide off of a bridge, and that he closes his eyes as he swoops down.
5. Who asked Owl over to her house to try some make-up?

Answer: Dawn

Dawn is the one who told Owl where Mr. Lindstorm lives, and some other interesting things about him.
6. Why does Owl eventually pity the strange boy who lives in the woods behind Mr. Lindstorm's house?

Answer: He doesn't eat, and he seems tormented.

She eventually notices that he doesn't eat, and is in a pitiful condition, which touches her heart.
7. What does Owl decide to name the strange boy?

Answer: Houle

She names him Houle because it rhymes with her name and it makes her feel binded to him.
8. Where does Owl hide Houle?

Answer: In Dawn's garage

Owl convinces Dawn that Houle needs help, and they hide him in her garage, which is heated and he can be easily hidden from Dawn's parents.
9. Who reveals to Mr. Lindstorm where Houle is hiding?

Answer: Dawn

Dawn walked four miles from her school to his house to tell him where Houle was. Owl stayed home from school that day, because she was unable to transform from her owl shape. She had left to feed Houle, when she noticed Dawn walking.
10. Who does Houle turn out to be?

Answer: The mad barn owl and Mr. Lindstorm's son

Houle turned out to be Mr. Lindstorm's son and the barn owl. Houle's parents had never known what was wrong with him, and locked him up.
