Paks gives everything she has to Kuakgan Oakhallow's shrine, even her spare clothes, in preparation for suicide. She tells him she wants nothing in return, which he says is unusual for anyone giving an offering. He then starts talking out her mental pain. He also gives her a physical healing, as the Gird healers did not get all the poison out of her body.

Answer: Rangers

With them, she learns to use a bow with more proficiency than she did in the militia. She also helps kill a massive creature, a daskdraudig. While she survives, other rangers die.

Answer: Drinks from a cup

Now that Paks knows what fear is like, and the difference between a love of fighting and courage, Oakhallow helps her with a ritual to restore her previous satisfaction she got when fighting well. She has to jump into fire without hesitation and call on her gods to protect her.

When she does, she has several visions, including one where drinks from the High Lord's silver cup. Afterwards, Paks can summon light, which is a paladin power.

Answer: Venner and Arvys

These two are part of Achrya's plan to spread evil. Paks defeats them by both summoning light and fighting with the blue sword that hasn't been touched in years. This event shows the Duke that Paks is now a paladin.

Answer: Red

Paks takes an unusual road to become a paladin, but she still gets her horse in the traditional way. Paladins' horses appear out of nowhere and are believed to be sent by Gird. Paks does not name the horse because she believes it has a name that it hasn't shared with her yet.

Answer: To find Lyonya's next ruler

When she draws the sword in Lyonya and it glows blue, the courtiers think that she's meant to be their new ruler. When she's sent on a quest, she doesn't know what the objective is for a while, but she doesn't think that she was meant to be Queen. After meditation, she knows that she must find the person the sword was forged for and restore him to Lyonya, as it must be ruled by a person who can sense taig. Before she realizes what she is meant to do, she thinks that she might have been sent by Gird to heal the King or return the blue sword to its ancestral home.

Answer: Barra

Barra appears at the beginning of "Oath of Gold" and is very bitter about Paks becoming a paladin. She fights Paks in an attempt to prove that Paks only got lucky breaks and isn't worthy of her position. Paks proves her wrong by defeating her even when Paks's sword breaks. Arvid from the Thieves' Guild in "Divided Allegiance" later kills Barra to stop her from killing Paks after the five days and nights underground.

Answer: Pity

In order to let the Duke escape, Paks allows Liart's priests to torture her for five days. During this time, in a moment of self-actualization, Paks sees that her anger, which once helped her in battle and nearly plunged her into evil in Kolobia, is all gone.

She has arrived at a point where she can feel only pity for anyone who derives pleasure from seeing anyone suffer as she does, especially a helpless paladin who never harmed them. Her lack of anger towards everyone eventually wears down the spectators: some of them begin to feel guilty and turn away from Liart.

Answer: Silver circle

Near the beginning of the torment, the priests brand her with Liart's mark. At the end, when she refuses to swear allegiance to Liart and announces that she has not failed, the brand changes into a silver circle to show Gird's approval of her actions. Her wounds begin to heal, and nearly everyone underground scampers, terrified of this power.

Answer: Regrows her hair

The Lady wants to see Paks with her long hair again, it having been shaved off by Liart's priests, so she grows it back out. When Paks first gets into her armor again after her ordeal, she finds that her helmet doesn't fit without her long braid coiled up inside it.
